Properties and Uses of Phosphorus

Facts about Phosphorus

• The name comes from the Greek wordphosphoros,wh
  ich means bringer of light, because phosphorus
  glows in the dark.
• It was discovered around 1669 by a German
  alchemist named Hennig Brandt during an
  experiment where he was attempting to change
  silver into gold.
• Phosphorus is found in three different forms
  ordinary white phosphorus, red phosphorus and
  black phosphorus.
• It is the 11th most abundant element and it is
  found in all fertile soil and most natural
  waters.
