3What is LinkedIn ?
- A business oriented social networking site used
for Professional Networking (Jones, 2008).
4Purpose
- Allows registered users to maintain a list of
contact details of people (connections) they know
and trust in business (Jones, 2008).
5Features of LinkedIn and Uses in Nursing
- Building up a contact network
- Find jobs, people, and business opportunities
- List jobs
- Review profiles, find and collaborate with
professionals to help you meet your goals - Look for connections to be introduced
- Join alumni or professional groups
- Applications platform
- Limited patient use
6But I am already using Facebook. Or Myspace etc.

- Notice the navigation bar on the left, the
options to build your network, the event
calendar, and network updates.

- Click Profile on navigation bar
- Import your resume
- Choose file and upload resume

- In search bar with Search People selected,
search for Tami Wyatt. Click on name.

- Is this the Tami Wyatt you had in mind?
21Lets make a contact!
- Click on Add Tami to your network. Select how
you might know Dr. Wyatt, and select Send
Invitation.
22Lets add additional connections.
- On the home page under Build Your Network,
click Find beside Current past colleagues.
You may then provide the needed information.

- Current and past colleagues, of course!
24How do I add applications?
- Click Applications located in the navigation
bar on the left. Applications will be listed.
Click on the desired application (this is an
example of SlideShare).

- Add yourself to groups, such as Sigma Theta Tau
and get updates - Applications include anything from information
about where your contacts are traveling, to
linking blogs, to sharing presentations, to
conducting polls - Remember, netiquette!

- A network is a group of business and professional
contacts with which you have common interests. - The internet is a growing resource of information
for business, teaching, and research. - Bookmarking is a way of organizing, accessing,
and sharing information from the internet using
two broad categories - Topics of interest

- Subscribe to tags (topics) or persons through RSS
feed to find out what others are using. - Create a classroom resource or library using a
specific tag designation (such as N577). - Create student projects and collaboratively save
applicable links to build a project library.

- Go to Delicious.com and sign up for a free
account. - Add Del.icio.us and tag buttons to your
browser. - Go to www.youtube.com/watch?vx66lV7GOcNUfeature
channel - Tag websites you want to save using keywords or
tags to organize them.
30Sharing Bookmarks
- Go to delicious homepage.
- Select people, then my network.
- Add people from your network and share your tags
and bookmarks. - Explore all tags and bookmarks according to tags
(topic), popularity, most recent, or
subscription.
