Title: ELVs Application Feedback

1
ELVs Application Feedback
  • Scrum
  • Organise thoughts in managing scrum set-up
  • Identify 1/2back 1st 5 2nd 5 and aim to sort
out their set up early so no disruption to
    actually scrum engagement
  • Non-feeding 1/2back has 2 options to setup
    sighted
  • Manage his 2 options clearly and early
  • Can mention his options in pre-match chat
  • Avoid scrums on the 22m
  • Good to verbalise to 1/2back where scrum is when
making the mark to avoid debate
  • Be aware that 1/2back can move along hindmost
foot line, but can not come forward until scrum
    is over
  • Rely on backs complying to stay 5m (just like 10m
at lineout) be aware of this as players become
    familiar

2
ELVs Application Feedback
  • Lineout
  • Forget about numbers may initially get players
    still calling numbers simply ignore
  • Focus on ball and what happens next
  • Quick throw-in (from where i.e. in 22m or taken
    back)
  • Not quick throw-in (minimum number of 2 from each
    team at the LOT)
  • Players approaching the LOT law still applies
  • Set the gap
  • Note position of opponent to thrower (minimum 2m
    from LOT x 2m from 5m)
  • Receiver options if present no closer than 2m
    to his lineout
  • Receiver does not have to be present
  • Front players not in 5m move them off the 5m
    line
  • Note receiver actions
  • Opponent to thrower can move once ball thrown
may join lineout or be receiver
  • 10m of backs until lineout finished

3
ELVs Application Feedback
  • Carried back
  • Awareness of different carried back situations
  • Anything the defending team does to take the ball
into their own 22m area constitutes carried back
  • Call out carried back ARs can assist here

4
ELVs Application Feedback
  • Corner post
  • Be aware ball is still alive after ball hits
    corner post
  • If ball bounces into touch in-goal field of
    play continues
  • If ball bounces into touch in-goal dropout/scrum
    option
  • ARs needs to move quickly to be in correct
    position

5
ELVs Application Feedback
  • Assistant referee
  • ARs think right is right
  • AR whatever side of field manage right team to
    you
  • Greater need to stay up with play be sharp
  • Assist referee based on pre-match discussion
  • Carried back into 22m assistance is important
  • If practical try to avoid placing set pieces on
the 22m (either inside or outside 22m)
  • Manage 5m offside at scrum just like 10m at
    lineout
