Problem If an inlet is not provided at the end
of shoulder gutter, washout will occur resulting
in dangerous dropoffs, exposed guardrail posts
and erosion.
Solution End each section of shoulder gutter
with an inlet. Assure that paved shoulder is
sloped to carry water to the gutter and inlet.
Flow of water
75 from last inlet to end of rail
Resulting washout
Grade of paved shoulder combined with grade of
ramp bypassed CG and DI resulting in washout at
guardrail post. Solutions include proper slope of
paved shoulder and/or extending CG
Consider matting this area stabilization after
gutter is installed
Solution inlet _at_ end eliminates washing
