3TR-069 Protocol Highlights
- TR-069 Protocol
- Access neutral, bi-directional SOAP/HTTP-based
messaging - Bootstrap communication and discover device
capabilities - Ability to set/get configuration information,
diagnostics, status and performance info - Firmware/image management
- Alerts based on changes to specific settings
- Independent gateway data model in common with
TR-064, extensible to additional devices and
capabilities
4TR69 Supported functionalities
- Auto-configuration and dynamic service
provisioning - Initial CPE configuration
- Re-provisioning at any subsequent time
- Software/firmware image management
- Version identification
- File download initiation
- Notification of the success or failure of a file
download - Status and performance monitoring
- Log file, and dynamic notification
- Diagnostics
- Connectivity and service issues
5TR-069 Management Connection
RPC Remote procedure call SOAP Simple Object
Access Protocol SSL Secure Socket Layer
6Security of the Management Connection
- Mechanism to secure the communication between CPE
and ACS - Security is enhanced with TR-069 by the CPE
initiating all communication (Although the ACS
system may ping the CPE device for a message) - TR69 utilizes a widely implemented HTTP protocol
over a SSL/TLS connection to provide a single
secure connection (x.509 certificate with Public
/ Private key technology to provide high security
encryption and Certificate based authentication). - With the RSA technology the client (CPE device)
does not require a separate x.509 certificate to
provide encryption. Client devices are
authenticated via the widely implemented HTTP
authentication - Similar mechanisms defined in CableLabs1.1

10Conclusions
- The TR-069 CPE WAN remote management protocol of
DSLHome is agnostic of the access technology used
and represents, for the operators, a first hook
into the home network. - Many TR-069 compliant products (CPEs, ACS,
middleware, chipset vendors) - DSLHome roadmap
- Interoperability of TR-069 -gt plug-feast events
- TR-069 or DSLHome certification on-going
- A lot of WTs in progress ACS northbound
interface, new services object models, QoS, new
RG specs, testing tools, - Align and liaise with UPnP Forum, DLNA, HGI
- DSLHome wants to push TR-069 for other access
technologies - Definition of new object model for fiber
technology is a major point in the roadmap and
has started
