    statistics to study population
  • Demographers collect stats about populations and
    use them o predict what will happen in the future
  • These statistics show us three different facts
    about population

  • Deathrate Amount of die born per every 1000
    people
  • Migration process of moving from one place to

  • Immigrants - People who come to a country

  • People learn culture from their parents peers
  • Cultural traits are activities behaviors
    specific to that culture
  • Examples
  • Pre-arranged marriages

  • Cultural regions are a specific area which the
    people there have a shared culture

  • Three main ways a culture changes
  • Assimilation
  • To become part of a dominant culture and to
    absorb the culture to where you move
  • Acculturation
  • To change as a result of having contact between
    cultures
  • Diffusion
  • Information or ideas spreading throughout a
    culture or society

  • Cultures main way of communication
  • Different languages are spoken in specific
    regions of the earth
  • Around 3,000-6,500 languages are spoken around
    the world today
  • Languages are grouped into different families
    according to origin
  • English is the most widespread language in the
    world

    meaning to peoples lives
  • Three types of religion
  • Ethnic Religion
  • Religion that focuses on 1 culture and has not
    spread to others

  • People believe in the presence of the spirits and

  • Example - Paganism
  • Universalizing Religions
  • Religions that have followers all over the world
  • Example - Christianity
