Brief History
  • Started originally in 1910 and by 1918 it was a
    full fledge honors society
  • Works closely with Phi Beta Kappa
  • There is a constitution
  • The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize
    and encourage scholarship among associate degree
    students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta
    Kappa provides opportunity for the development of
    leadership and service, for an intellectual
    climate to exchange ideas and ideals, for lively
    fellowship for scholars, and stimulation of
    interest in continuing academic excellence.

Honors Study Topic
  • From 2006-08 the Honors study topic is Gold,
    Gods, and Glory The Global Dynamics of POWER
  • Why? Its the theme all speakers revolve around
    it and it teaches us something new every term.

Hallmarks
  • Guidelines vary from Regional and International
    Level
  • Service
  • -Primary focus 4 (International Service
    Program-Operation Green was Cancer) and the
    secondary focus 3 (other service activities with
    your campus, your community and/or other chapters
    in or beyond your region may also be included)
  • Scholarship
  • Must implement projects that have to do with the
    honors study topic Gold, Gods, and Glory The
    Global Dynamics of Power Primary focus (Honors
    Study Topic) and secondary focus (mentoring,
    tutoring, etc.)

Hallmarks
  • Leadership
  • Must implement programs that prove the
    development of our members into leaders, such as
    participation at certain conventions and maybe
    hosting our own. Primary focus (leadership roles)
    and the secondary focus (leadership skills
    development) of their Leadership Hallmark program
  • Fellowship
  • -Fellowship activities equals FUN especially with
    other chapters in our region.

5 Star Program
  • Five Star Level standards emphasize increased
    participation at the regional and international
    levels. The chapter must fulfi ll all One Star,
    Two Star, Three Star, Four Star and Five Star
    Level requirements to reach the Five Star Level.
    Activities may be completed in any order.
  • 1. Your chapter implements one additional Honors
    Study Topic project for a total of four projects.
    At least two of your four Honors Study Topic
    projects must incorporate the Leadership and
    Fellowship Hallmarks.
  • 2. Your chapter implements one additional
    International Service Program project for a total
    of four projects. At least two of your four
    International Service Program projects must
    incorporate the Leadership and Fellowship
    Hallmarks.

5 Star Program
  • 3. Your chapter enters the Scholarship,
    Leadership and Service award categories in the
    2008 regional awards competition.
  • 4. Your chapter enters at least four 2008
    International Hallmark Awards (Scholarship,
    Leadership and Service and at least one
    individual category).
  • 5. Your chapter participates in ONE of the
    following
  • A) International Convention
  • B) International Honors Institute
  • C) All four broadcasts of the 2007 Honors
    Satellite Seminar Series.

Enhanced Membership Program
  • A type of recognitions program for the members
    that have gone above and beyond
  • Im thinking to stay together and have everything
    logged with Valencia Volunteers and get PTK award
    from those logged hours.

Chapter By-Laws
  • Set of rules that we must obied by
  • Give us standards as well and if in the case of
    major conflict we can find resolution through the
    our chapter by-laws
  • Must be updated every year and submitted to
    headquaters

Officer Positions
  • Each officer position will be responsible for at
    least one chair of a committee
  • That committee can tackle a project as small as
    an essay to a full out project with 10 other
    chapters
  • No committee will be formed until approved but
    that does not mean hold ideas.

Conclusion
  • Yes, we have much to do but many achievements and
    rewards are to come
  • The key to our success is to work as a TEAM no
    one person is to be recognized individually and
    no projects is owned by any one person
  • Though one is a chair of a committee doesnt mean
    they reap all the benefits
  • I am looking forward to a beneficial fun year
    with help of you, leaders.
