8The Diploma ProgrammeThe Curriculum
- The Diploma Programme is displayed in the shape
of a hexagon with six academic areas or subject
groups surrounding a core of requirements
students study the subjects concurrently.
Students are exposed to the two great traditions
of learning the humanities and the sciences.

10PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- Students are required to test from each of the
six subject groups. At least three and not more
than four are taken at higher level (HL-240
hours). The others are taken at standard level
(SL-150 hours). These are considered external
assessments and are taken in May during the
junior or senior year.
11Additionally, each subject area requires an
internal assessment (IA). Due at various times
during the year to balance a students work
load, these assessments are used as markers to
achieve a common grading standard for schools
internationally. PGThis grade is a prediction
made by the teacher, based on the evidence of the
candidates work and the teachers knowledge of
the IB standards. PGs are also required for ToK
and EE.

13OTHER REQUIREMENTS
A requirement intended to stimulate critical
reflection on knowledge and experience gained
inside and outside the classroom. ToK involves
at least 100 hours of teaching time spanning the
programmes 2 years. Each student is required
to submit one essay, between 1200 and 1600
words, from a list of ten titles prescribed by IB.

skills expected at a university level, demands
about 40 hours of private study and writing time.
Mentors assist with the papers completion.
15CAS

beginning the summer after their sophomore year.

17Awarding of the IB Diploma
- All 6 exams and additional requirements must be
completed in order to qualify for the awarding of
the IB diploma - The IB diploma will be awarded to students whose
cumulative score is 24-27, provided the following
requirements have been met
18- Grades have been awarded in 6 subjects
- CAS hours have been successfully completed
- EE and ToK have been successfully completed, with
at least a D in one - No grade 1 in any subject
- No grade 2 in HL
- No more than one grade 2 in SL
- No more than three grades 3 or below
- At least 12 points have been gained in HL
(candidates who register for 4 HL subjects must
gain at least 16 points in HL) - At least 9 points have been gained in SL
(candidates who register for two SL subjects must
gain at least 6 points in SL) - The final award committee has not judged the
candidate to be guilty of malpractice
19- The IB diploma will be awarded to students whose
cumulative score is 28 or above, provided the
following requirements have been met
