Title: The Need for

1
The Need for
  • a Healer

2
A Need without a Healer
  • One of the greatest fears of the community of the
human beings living in an ever shrinking world

but the greatest problem of humanity does not
lie in some future disease of pandemic
proportions
Need
A Need without a Healer
is that some day very soon we will pollute our
environment, destroy our ecology or mess with our
lives so much...
Healer
that we will inevitably come across diseases for
which we will be unable to find a healer.
unable to
find a healer

unable to find a healer
  • but the greatest problem of humanity does not
lie in some future disease of pandemic
    proportions

Greed that swallows up the earth
It lies in the thing that causes us to destroy
our environment, our world, our society and
ultimately ourselves...
Our Sin
4
A Need without a Healer
Our Sin
  • Greed that swallows up the earth

(Isaiah 15-6) Why do you persist in rebellion?
Your whole head is injured, your whole heart
afflicted. From the sole of your foot to the top
of your head there is no soundness-- only wounds
and welts and open sores, not cleansed or
bandaged or soothed with oil.
Selfishness that takes from others to feed the
Self
Violence that wounds another so that we can
satisfy our own needs
Pride that blinds us to our wretchedness,
meaninglessness and lostness
5
A Need without a Healer
Our Sin
  • (Isa 5910-17) Like the blind we grope along the
wall, feeling our way like men without eyes. At
midday we stumble as if it were twilight among
the strong, we are like the dead. We all growl
like bears we moan mournfully like doves...

6
A Need without a Healer
Our Sin
  • (Isa 5910-17) We look for justice, but find
none for deliverance, but it is far away. For
our offenses are many in Your sight, and our sins
testify against us. Our offenses are ever with
us, and we acknowledge our iniquities

7
A Need without a Healer
Our Sin
  • (Isa 5910-17) rebellion and treachery against
the LORD, turning our backs on our God, fomenting
oppression and revolt, uttering lies our hearts
have conceived. So justice is driven back, and
    righteousness stands at a distance

8
A Need without a Healer
Our Sin
  • (Isa 5910-17) truth has stumbled in the
streets, honesty cannot enter. Truth is nowhere
to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a
prey. The LORD looked and was displeased that
    there was no justice

9
A Need without a Healer
Our Sin
  • (Isa 5910-17) He saw that there was no one,
He was appalled that there was no one to
intervene so His own arm worked salvation for
Him, and His own righteousness sustained Him. He
put on righteousness as His breastplate, and the
helmet of salvation on His head.

Healer
Need
  • (Mark 215) While Jesus was having dinner at
Levi's house, many tax collectors and sinners
were eating with Him and His disciples, for there
    were many who followed Him.

So are you sitting at Jesus Table
The Needy with the Healer
No Need for a Healer
or are you still on the outside looking in?
Notice Group 1
Tax collectors sinners at Levis home
Group 1 is defined by people who know their need
for a Healer because He sought them out and they
came to Him...
tax collectors, sinners, wounded, blind, weak,
stricken, ill, in need
and Jesus ate with them, walked in their midst,
heard their pain and healed their lives.
What two things defined this Group?
OR
People who followed Jesus ate with Him
12
No Need for a Healer
  • (Mark 215-17) When the teachers of the Law who
were Pharisees saw Him eating with the sinners
and tax collectors, they asked His disciples

(Mark 215-17) "Why does He eat with tax
collectors and sinners?"
(Mark 215-17) On hearing this, Jesus said to
them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor,
but the sick. I have not come to call the
righteous, but sinners."
Why doesnt God do something about those
sinners?
I dont need God to tell me what to do.
Why doesnt God give me what I want when He
gives others what they want?
Im dont need a Healer.
Why should I have anything to do with God if He
hasnt benefitted me?
Why does God want to meddle with my life?
Why does God permit suffering?
Im not sick.
I dont need God.
No Need for a Healer
Notice Group 2
They were teachers of the Law of Moses
And their interest is not in the healing of the
soul but in finding fault with the Healer
defined not by holiness in keeping the Law but
their role as Mosaic-law police

  • (Mark 215-17) On hearing this, Jesus said to
them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor,
but the sick. I have not come to call the
