3IntroductionMountain View Community Hospital
- The chart on slide 3 from page 67 is an
organizational chart that shows MVCH as of
January 1, 2001. - This chart is divided into two groups.
- The physicians, who are headed by Chief of
Staff, Dr. Browne, and are responsible for the
quality of medical care provided to their
patients. - The group headed by the Administrator, Ms.
Baker, which provides the nursing, clinical and
administrative support the physicians need to
serve their patients.
4Goals, Growth Rate and Planning
- Basic goal is to provide high-quality health care
for the surrounding community while containing
costs that have been rising in accordance with
national trends in recent years. MVCH community
is about 50,000 with an annual growth rate of
10. - Goal is to expand its capacity (adding 50 beds in
five years) and opening a managed care retirement
center with independent apartments and assisted
living facilities. Adequate land is available for
expansion adjacent to the hospital. - Goal is to increase both administrative and
medical staff, create 2 new departments - Retirement Living under Ms. Baker
- Geriatric Medicine under Dr. Browne.

- A consultant
- Have been developing a long-term business plan,
including an information systems plan for the
hospital. Their work is not complete, but they
have begun to identify many of the elements
necessary to build the plan.
6Critical Success Factors
- In order to meet the goals of high-quality health
care, cost containment and expansion into new
services MVCH has 4 critical success factors. - Quality of medical care
- Control of operating costs
- Control of capital costs
- Recruitment and retention of skilled personnel
(especially nurses)
7Current Team Objectives
- Team is working to generate 2 to 4 short- or
long-term objectives of each CSF. - Currently they have developed 4 objectives
related to the control of operating costs CSF - Reduce costs for purchased items
- More efficiently schedule staff
- Lower cost of liability insurance
- Expand volunteer services

status (Nursing, Patient Accounting, etc.) Using

Matrix -find what entities would use/maintain
those functions Looking at this we find that
cost control is an essential function of almost
every entity. Therefore, the quality of all data
is essential.
