  • The Professional Certificate is the 2nd tier
teaching credential required of all Washington
teachers to remain in the profession beyond their
    residency period.
  • Your residency certificate
  • Has no expiration date until you have been
employed, under contract, for two years.
  • On the third contract year, the residency
certificate is reissued and is then good for five
    years.
  • You must earn your Professional Certificate
    before your residency certificate expires.

    standard

  • Certification programs will still be offered by
    universities through 8/31/11 only.
  • Support programs will become available.
  • Program participation is expected to become
    optional.
  • 2011-12 and beyond State assessment will be
    mandatory, as of 9/1/2011.
  • Only support programs will be available.
  • All candidates must submit to the ProTeach
    Portfolio assessment.

6
PRO CERT IN TRANSITION
  • Why a Certification Program is a Good Deal!
  • Your portfolio is developed with your
    instructors guidance feedback.
  • That same instructor evaluates your portfolio for
    certification instead of external scorers.
  • The state assessment is not required, so there is
    no additional cost.
  • A support program may offer similar guidance, but
the state assessment is still required at an
    additional cost.

7
IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER!
  • ProTeach Portfolio submission dates are
  • First round July 1, 2010
  • Subsequent rounds January 31 and July 1 each year
  • If your residency certificate expires June 30,
    2010
  • You must complete a university certification
program this school year. You cannot submit a
    ProTeach Portfolio.
  • If your residency certificate expires June 30,
    2011
  • A university program is strongly recommended.
