    in order to become an adult.
  • These self-discipline skills emphasize ones
    ability to wait and to delay gratification.

What is STARS?
  • A small-group experience to help students improve
    perceptions of
  • Scholastic competence
  • Social acceptance
  • Behavioral conduct

What are the goals?
  • To help students realize that others share the
    same difficulties that they may have
  • To increase students self acceptance

Who participates?
  • Students in grades four, five and six who have
    been identified as having difficulties with
    attention
  • Recommended by teachers and/or parents
  • Have permission given by their parents
  • Beginning with fifth graders

Whos in charge?
  • The groups are offered through the Special
    Services offices at the Villa.
  • They will be facilitated by
  • Nurse, Kathy Johnson (ext. 1204)
  • Learning Specialist, Pam Dillion (ext. 1203)
  • Counselor, Sr. Margie Efkeman (ext. 1202)

Everybody Counts WeekOctober 17-21, 2005
  • Increases knowledge of disabilities.
  • Lessens anxieties and misunderstandings.
  • Fosters recognition of our basic human
    similarities.
  • Celebrates each persons unique gifts as a child
    of God.

Everybody Counts
  • Is coordinated and staffed by many parent and
    non-Villa-parent volunteers.
  • Echoes our Ursuline theme, Be kind and
    compassionate toward others.
  • Is an important St. Ursula Villa tradition.

Red Ribbon WeekOctober 24-28, 2005
  • A week set aside nationally for schools and
    communities to raise awareness of the effects of
    alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.
  • Students and staff wear Red Ribbons or stickers
    to signify their commitment to a drug-free
    lifestyle or responsible use by adults.

  • Teachers focus on good decision-making and
    personal resiliency skills.
  • Some drug information is provided for older
    students.

Parents Role
  • Parents are encouraged to
  • examine your impact as role models of
    responsible use of drugs and alcohol.
  • learn more about influences your children are
    exposed to.
  • talk with your children about drug and alcohol
    use and your expectations in this regard.
