Services for eLearning
  • We need to help teachers and students find
    content from cultural institutions
  • This means looking at the search services they
    use
  • And seeing how our records can be made available
    to them

32
  • European project -gt service
  • Uses metadata based on IEEE (LOM)

33
  • UK service, designed to help teachers to find
educational content and to assess if it meets
    their needs
  • Uses metadata based on IEEE (LOM)

34
Services for eLearning
  • Use education metadata such as IEEE(Lom) metadata
    and Curriculum vocabulary
  • Cultural sector is creating MICHAEL metadata to
    describe electronic resources
  • Can MICHAEL metadata be re-used in resource
    discovery services for teachers?

35
Mappings
  • MICHAEL metadata schema has been mapped to IEEE
    LOM
  • Broad concept of a Service/Product that makes a
single Collection can be considered as a learning
    object
  • Provides basic description keywords
  • Curriculum/learning specific indexing is missing

36
Next steps
  • We want to find a way of enriching MICHAEL
    records to support education needs!

37
UK trials
  • Curriculum Online produced a tagging tool to
help content providers in the UK to create
    educational metadata
  • Integrates curriculum vocabularies from BECTA
  • We want to import MICHAEL records to enable the
    metadata to be enriched
