Wire compensation test at RHIC

• Why May allow higher luminosity if successful
  and will define the upgrade path. 1st real test
  of the principle.
• Design of wire compensator in progress, review in
  Summer 06, install in Fall 06
• Beam-beam experiment in RHIC, likely in March
  06. Test the impact of a parasitic interaction
  under nominal conditions
• Beam-beam simulations by different groups. Aim is
  to push them to make predictions for this
  experiment.

New LHC Injector

• Proposed by H. Piekarz (TD)
• Motivation Raise the injection energy from 0.45
  TeV to 1-1.5 TeV.
• - Will allow higher intensity bunches due to
  reduced space charge effects.
• - Also concern about the field quality of LHC
  magnets at 0.45TeV
• Proposed LHCI will be built in the LHC tunnel
  using the transmission line magnets proposed for
  the VLHC.
• Optics design by John Johnstone in progress

  physicists, operators, the SPS as in injector and
  the control system. Test our analysis tools
