Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages
  • One main advantage of nuclear power is that it is
possible to produce large amounts of energy for
    long periods of time
  • This almost never-ending source is known as a
    renewable energy.

Advantages cont
  • Nuclear energy does not cause greenhouse gases or
    acid rain.
  • All of the steam released into the air is solely
    steam.
  • Therefore, the nuclear cycle follows the
regulations set by the Clean Air Act of 1970.

Dissadvantages
  • Nuclear reactors only last for about forty to
    fifty years.
  • The shortage in lifespan means that companies
must create new nuclear power plants in order to
keep up with the energy demand.
  • There is a very low chance of a nuclear meltdown,
but when that does occur large scale effects can
    take effect.

5
Disadvantages cont
  • The most common obstacle that nuclear power faces
is the capital cost required because of
    emergency, containment, radioactive waste, and
    storage systems
  • Nuclear power produces small amounts of waste,
but the waste is very, very dangerous
  • If something goes wrong, a nuclear accident can
    become a major disaster.
