2How would you like it if someone came into your
room and messed up your stuff????
3Thats exactly what can happen to your computer
when you arent careful!
4Something called malicious code can get into
your computer and mess things up without you even
knowing it.
5Viruses, worms and Trojan Horses are all types of
malicious code that can enter your computer and
harm or even destroy your files. Has that ever
happened to anyone?
6Malicious code can slow down your computer, cause
files to run incorrectly, or even cause it to
stop working completely.
7It can also replicate itself and you can
accidentally send it to your friends. Malicious
code can cost thousands of dollars worth of
damage in no time at all!
8Does anyone know how your computer gets infected
with malicious code????
9One way your computer gets infected is through
Internet-related activities.
I-Ming
E-mail
File-sharing
Downloading files
10Take action There are things you can do to
reduce your risk of infection.
11- Dont open e-mail attachments from people you
dont know. IF you open an attachment from a
friend, be sure to save it before opening it.
- Use anti-virus software and install a firewall on
your home computer.
12- Use passwords that are hard to guess
by using a combination of letters and numbers. - Dont share your passwords with
anyone, including your friends. Friends change.
Dont respond to spam or phish email. Your
response can lead to more trouble. (Phishing is
when someone pretends to be a company such as
Amazon or a bank and asks for information.)
13- Disconnect your computer from the Internet when
it is not in use. - Dont use file sharing software or download
programs without your parents permission.
Use caution before you fall into a hole and cant
get out!
14Another security problem with the Internet is
Identity theft!
15Thousands of identity thefts occur each year and
that number is increasing. Every year people
lose thousands of dollars.
16The best way to prevent identify theft is Dont
ever give out private information on the Internet.
Some examples of private information are Your
social security number, your phone number, your
full name, or your credit card number. If you
arent sure if its private, ask an adult.
17The Internet is a wonderful place to get
information and to communicate. Use some caution
and you can protect yourself and your computer.
