Title: DonorNet Data

1
DonorNet Data
  • Based on system data between
  • May 1 July 6, 2007

2
COHORT
  • All electronic notifications from May 1, 2007,
    through July 4, 2007
  • EXCLUSIONS
  • Offers made electronically by the Organ Center
  • Non-electronic offers (made by either an OPO or
    the Organ Center)
  • Import matches
  • Matches not yet closed

3
REPORTING CONVENTIONS
  • In this report heart matches and heart-lung
matches are reported separately for many of the
tabulations. A heart may be placed off of either
type of match a heart-lung may be placed off of
a heart-lung match or in some cases from a lung
    match
  • The tabulations may include both donors and
potential donors. Due to the recent nature of
these tabulations, it is not always possible to
determine if organs have been recovered (which
    determines donor status.)
  • Broadcast notification Defined as all electronic
offers that were sent out simultaneously this
may include a single center or multiple centers.
Multiple broadcast notifications may be sent out
    on one match.

4
NOTE Due to the very recent nature of these data
and the short time period included in the cohort,
the results should be considered as purely
preliminary and are subject to change based on
future data submission or correction.
Conclusions should be made with caution.
5
OVERALL ACTIVITY
  • For donors/potential donors in cohort with at
    least one electronic notification

This may include cases where the center
exceeded notification time or evaluation time.
6
MATCHES WITH ELECTRONIC OFFERS
7
ORGANS ACCEPTED
NOTE Kidney-pancreas and heart-lung blocs could
have been accepted during this time period.
These combinations would appear separately in
this table.
8
BROADCAST NOTIFICATIONS
9
NUMBER OF BROADCAST NOTIFICATION GROUPS NOTIFIED
ELECTRONICALLY PER MATCH 5/1/2007-7/4/2007
  • With the exception of pancreas, 40 or more of
the abdominal matches had only 1 broadcast
    notification group.
  • All the thoracic organs had 40 or more of their
matches with 5 or more broadcast notification
    groups.
  • These tabulations are based only on electronic
broadcast notifications and do not account for
the number of centers/candidates notified per
    broadcast notification group.

10
NUMBER OF BROADCAST NOTIFICATION GROUPS NOTIFIED
ELECTRONICALLY PER MATCH 5/1/2007-7/4/2007Strati
fied by Organ Acceptance Abdominal Organs
  • With the exception of intestine and KI ECD/DCD,
there is the same or lower percentage of matches
with only 1 broadcast notification group for
matches where the organ wasnt placed compared to
the matches where an organ was placed within each
    organ type.

11
NUMBER OF BROADCAST NOTIFICATION GROUPS NOTIFIED
ELECTRONICALLY PER MATCH 5/1/2007-7/4/2007Strati
fied by Organ Acceptance Thoracic Organs
  • There is a lower percentage of matches with only
1 broadcast notification group for matches where
the organ wasnt placed compared to the matches
where an organ was placed within each organ type.

12
NUMBER OF BROADCAST NOTIFICATION GROUPS NOTIFIED
ELECTRONICALLY PER MATCH 5/1/2007-7/4/2007Limite
d to matches with only local electronic offers
  • In all organs 60 or more of the matches had only
    1 broadcast notification group.
  • No organ type had more than 6 of their matches
with 5 or more broadcast notification groups.
  • These tabulations are based only on electronic
broadcast notifications and do not account for
the number of centers/candidates notified per
    broadcast notification group.

13
NUMBER OF BROADCAST NOTIFICATION GROUPS NOTIFIED
ELECTRONICALLY PER MATCH 5/1/2007-7/4/2007Limite
d to matches with at least one regional
electronic offer
  • The percentage of matches with only 1 broadcast
notification ranged from less than 15
    (KI-ECD/DCD) to over 90 (IN).
  • These tabulations are based only on electronic
broadcast notifications and do not account for
the number of centers/candidates notified per
    broadcast notification group.

14
TIME BETWEEN BROADCAST NOTIFICATIONS
5/1/07-7/4/07 (N2,829 MATCHES WITH 1 BROADCAST
NOTIFICATION)
  • The median time between broadcast notifications
    was approximately 20 minutes.
  • Though there was some variability across the
organ types, the 75th -ile for most organs was
    approximately 50 minutes or less

NOTE There were 1938 matches (out of the total
4767) with only 1 broadcast notification. These
matches do not appear in this figure.
15
CENTER NOTIFICATIONS
16
NUMBER OF CENTERS NOTIFIED ELECTRONICALLY PER
MATCH 5/1/07-7/4/07 (N4,767 MATCHES)
  • All of the organs had a median for centers
notified per match of 7 or fewer.
  • With the exception of PA, the 75th -ile for the
abdominal organs was 7 or less (9 or less if
including KI-ECD/DCD), about half that for the
    thoracic organs.

17
NUMBER OF CENTERS NOTIFIED ELECTRONICALLY PER
MATCH 5/1/07-7/4/07 Stratified by Organ
Acceptance Abdominal Organs
  • All of the matches for accepted organs had a
median of 6 centers or less.
  • All of the organs, except intestine, had the same
or more centers on average that were contacted
for matches where the organ was not accepted.

18
NUMBER OF CENTERS NOTIFIED ELECTRONICALLY PER
MATCH 5/1/07-7/4/07 Stratified by Organ
Acceptance Thoracic Organs
  • The median number of centers for matches where
the organ was accepted was approximately 4 for
    all thoracic organs.
  • All of the organs had a higher median number of
centers for matches where the organ was not
    accepted.

19
NUMBER OF CENTERS NOTIFIED ELECTRONICALLY PER
MATCH BEYOND THE ACCEPTOR 5/1/07-7/4/07 (N2,129
MATCHES)
  • All of the organs had a median for centers
notified beyond acceptor of 2 or fewer.
  • The 75th -ile was 4 or fewer centers notified
beyond the accepting center for all organs.
  • NOTE If the only candidates notified beyond the
acceptor were at the accepting center or not
candidates were notified beyond the acceptor then
the number of centers would be 0 for this
    tabulation.

20
NUMBER OF CENTERS NOTIFIED ELECTRONICALLY PER
MATCH BEYOND THE ACCEPTOR 5/1/07-7/4/07 LIMITED
TO ORGANS ACCEPTED LOCALLY (N1,407 MATCHES)
  • All of the organs had a median for centers
notified beyond acceptor of 2 or fewer, except
    for IN.
  • The 75th -ile was 4 or fewer centers notified
beyond the accepting center for all organs.
  • NOTE If the only candidates notified beyond the
acceptor were at the accepting center or not
candidates were notified beyond the acceptor then
the number of centers would be 0 for this
    tabulation.

21
NUMBER OF CENTERS NOTIFIED ELECTRONICALLY PER
MATCH BEYOND THE ACCEPTOR 5/1/07-7/4/07 LAST
ORGAN ACCEPTED WAS NON-LOCAL (N381 MATCHES)
  • All of the organs had a median for centers
notified beyond acceptor of 3.5 or fewer.
  • The 75th -ile was 5 or fewer centers notified
beyond the accepting center for all organs.
  • NOTE If the only candidates notified beyond the
acceptor were at the accepting center or not
candidates were notified beyond the acceptor then
the number of centers would be 0 for this
    tabulation.

22
CANDIDATE NOTIFICATIONS
23
MEDIAN NUMBER OF CANDIDATES NOTIFIED
ELECTRONICALLY PER MATCH 5/1/07-7/4/07 (N4,767
MATCHES)
  • The median number of candidates with electronic
offers per match was approximately 10-15 for most
    organ types.
  • With the exception of intestine the median number
of candidates with electronic offers was higher
on matches for non-accepted organs than for
    accept organ matches.

24
INITIAL STATUS OF ALL ELECTRONIC CANDIDATE-LEVEL
OFFERS (5/1/07-7/4/07) (N111,432 OFFERS)NOTE
Figure includes all matches with electronic
offers and includes both organs accepted and
organs not accepted
Some offers with an initial status of exceeded
time were subsequently given another opportunity
to respond. This chart reflects only the initial
status.
NOTE The percentage of offers with a status of
provisional yes/organ accepted does not represent
the percentage of organs that were accepted.
This cohort may include a single match with
multiple provisional yes responses it may also
include multiple matches for one organ. The total
number of candidate offers may also include
offers after the acceptor for organs that were
accepted.

Time estimated based on hours between candidate
notification time and clamp-date/time ischemia
time Tabulation limited to acceptances from
electronic offers.
  • The median time from notification to transplant
was approximately 25 hours or less for abdominal
organs and 18 hours or less for thoracic organs.
  • The 75th -ile was 33 hours or less for abdominal

33
PLACEMENT/ PLACEMENT EFFORTS
34
PLACEMENT OUTCOME FOR ORGANS WITH ANY ELECTRONIC
NOTIFICATIONS 5/1/07-7/4/07
This table is based on matches by organ type.
It does not reflect the recovery/transplant rates
by each organ type. Heart-lung matches may
result in transplants of the heart-lung bloc or a
heart alone.
INTERPRETATION There were 964 donors/potential
donors from whom a kidney match was run. Of
these 964, 731 (76) had at least one kidney
transplanted. Of the remaining 233
donors/potential donors with a kidney match run,
129 had least 1 electronic offer made outside of
the local DSA and 104 did not.
35
PERCENTAGE OF DONORS WITH MATCHES RUN PRE- AND
POST-DONORNET
The percentage of donors from whom a match was
run is fairly similar during the two periods for
all organ types.
36
MATCH RUNS WHERE MATCH WAS EXHAUSTED (ALL
CANDIDATES RECEIVED OFFERS)
  • For every match organ type there were more
matches exhausted post-DonorNet than prior to
    DonorNet.
  • For most organ types the median number of
candidates on the exhausted matches was similar
    between the two eras.
