1 MDM Introduction
  • M.D.M. Scheme launched in November,1984.
  • About 32577 Govt./Govt. aided primary schools
    included, covering classes I to VII.
  • Hot cooked meal to 42.00 lakh Primary school
    children will be serve. .2008-09
  • 180 gms of foodgrains/pulse/vegetable/oil etc.
    per day child giving more than 450 calorie
    12-15 gm. Of proteins.2008-09
  • Expr. per child per day Rs. 4.71 for including
    Std. I to V 5.21 for std VI to VII. .2008-09
  • State Govt.s overall budget Rs.269.38 lakhs for
    2007-08, likely expenditure upto March- 08 will
    be Rs. 269.38 Lakhs.)
  • Weekly Menu has been enforced with enough
    flexibilities according to local taste and
    resources.

8 Procurement Supply Food grains /
Cooking Materials 
The Gujarat State Civil Supply Corporation an
apex agency for supply of Foodgrains as also
procurement of food commodities i.e. Edible
oil, pulses (dal) and foodgrains for std. VI
VII. Lifting of foodgrains from FCI Godown to
District Godown, distributed to taluka
Godowns. Supply of Food commodities at District
Godown distributed to taluka Godowns.   Six
monthly indent based on daily food component sent
to GSCSC Periodical release through F.P.S.
system upto the centre level ensuring regular
supply.   Monthly review of supply being done at
State level.

10 Arrangement of Conversion Cost
Per child per day cost is Rs. 2.64 for Std. I to
V Rs. 3.14 for std. VI VII. State Govt.
releases the entire grant on quarterly basis or
even in advance according to requirement. C.A.
received from GOI is adjusted against the
expenditure already made / being made. Mode of
expenditure a. To GSCSC, on purchase of
commodity. b. To organize,r as advance to meet
the cooking expenditure like spices, fuel,
vegetables, grinding etc. _at_ 0.70 ps. per child
per day. System well established well tested.

11 Implementation Review
  • (i) State level / Dist. Level /Taluka level
    committees working since 1984.
  • (ii) Monitoring by periodically returns
    regular targeted inspections of MDM centres.
  • (iii,iv) Routine school visits also covers
    inspections short comings noticed are given due
    follow ups / remedies.
  • (v) Panchayats are fully involved in form of VECs
    and MTA/PTAs.
  • (vi) MDM organizer manages the entire function at
    MDM centre.
  • (vii) Accountant General conducts regular audits
    of State District level offices.

12. Construction of Kitchen Sheds
  • Details of construction of kitchen sheds
    carried out under various schemes-

6318 kitchen sheds constriction has started and
shall be over in.

13. Utensils
  • Cooking equipments Kitchen devices of
    Rs. 1119.95 lakhs will be purchased during the
    year 2008-09.
  • The State Government is in complete
  • compliance with the Hon. Supreme Courts
  • directions, as the scheme will be implemented for
  • more than 200 days during the year. Hon.Supreme
  • Court has directed to provide hot cooked meal
    with
  • 450 calories and 8 to 12 gms. protein value while
  • the State Government provides this meal with 450
  • calories and 15 gms. protein value.

14. N.G.O. Participation
  • The State Government has initiated participation
    of NGO in MDM as a pilot project in the eastern
    part of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and three
    talukas of Valsad District and entrusted the work
    to Stri Shakti in June 2006.
  • From June-2007 the work of this scheme in the
    western part of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation
    and Gandhinagar taluka has been given to the
    Akshay Patra Foundation.

15. Tithi Bhojan
  • Government of Gujarat has initiated the
    concept of
  • public participation in the scheme through
    the concept of Tithi Bhojan . The
    villagers sponsor the food with sweets for
    children on various occasions and provide
    utensils for MDM centres.

16. Involvement of Teachers Mothers.
  • Formation of MTAs and arrangement for their
    regular meetings with Head Masters teachers in
    school.
  • Arrangement of regular visit at MDM centre by
    mothers in rotational basis for the purpose of
    supervision of the process of cooking and serving
    food in a disciplinary and hygienic manners.
  • During Mothers Sammelan mothers were provided
    information on the aspects of supervision of MDM
    centre in order to further improvement and
    popularity of the scheme.
