3
Introduction
  • Radar clutter consists of backscatters from all
the objects that are in the radar beam except the
    main target.
  • Sea, vegetation, buildings and cars can cause
    clutter signals.
  • If the appropriate signal models are obtained,
then it will be easier to suppress clutter
signals and emphasize desired target signals.
  • We can simulate radar clutter on computer using
    clutter models.

4
Radar Clutter Modeling (1/2)
  • Return signals from man-made structures have to
    be determined statistically.
  • The variation of return signals depends on
configuration, line-up and density of the
    structure.
  • Using data sets, return signal of a structure can
    be expressed as a histogram.
  • Statistical models are constructed from these
    histograms.

5
Data Set and Histogram
  • Data set and histogram for an urban clutter model
(X Band, HH polarized and 600 grazing angle).

6
Radar Clutter Modeling (2/2)
  • Most common method used for generating clutter
signals from statistical models is Spherically
    Invariant Random Vector (SIRV) method.
  • In order to model different types of correlated
non-Gaussian radar clutter, a library of
multivariate non-Gaussian pdf's can be developed
    using SIRV's.

7
Examples for SIRV method
  • The frequency histograms for the generated data
    and corresponding theorical probability density
    functions.

8
Proposed Study (1/2)
  • Generation of clutter amplitude signals.
  • Clutter effects of man-made structures will
investigate and clutter amplitude signal will
    generate.
  • Man-made structures are
  • - Buildings
  • - Roads
  • - Vehicles

9
Proposed Project (2/2)
  • Specification of statistical models that are used
for clutter amplitude signal modeling of man-made
    structures.
  • MATLAB for generating clutter amplitude signal
    using SIRV.

10
Conclusion
  • Radar clutter consists of signals which arrive to
radar receivers from objects that are in the
radar beam other than the intended target.
  • We can simulate radar clutter on computer using
    clutter models.
  • SIRV is the one of the computer generation
    methods.
  • Radar clutter amplitude signals will be generated
on computer using SIRV method and MATLAB.
