- 3. Understand Your Boss
- Understand that your Manager has other
priorities, more urgent than your issue.
- Understand the direction the manager wants the
group to go, as well as the direction of the
Service.
- Offer assistance to the manager when the manager
has several approaching deadlines.
- Try to resolve your problems on your own before
coming to the manager. (That includes doing
research on your own.)
- Know your managers pet peeves.

- 4. Communicate Effectively
- Figure the Best Way to Communicate With Your
Manager (face-to-face, e-mail, voice mail?).
- Stick to the issue of concern when meeting with
your manager. Try not to digress.
- Offer solutions or recommendations regarding the
issue(s) you are discussing with the manager.
- If a problem arises, discuss it with a manager or
someone who can actually do something about it.
