Title: WBS 1.8 Review Frame, Absorbers and Stand

1
WBS 1.8 ReviewFrame, Absorbers and Stand
  • Jim Kilmer
  • Sept. 7 2005

2
WBS 1.8 Review
  • Short overview
  • What WBS1.8 covers
  • Cost Drivers
  • Steel flatness
  • Questions we need to answer soon

3
MINERnA
  • Deborah Harris Fermilab
    WIN05, Delfoi

4
Basic Detector Geometry
  • Active segmented scint. detector 5.87 tons
  • 1 ton of US nuclear target planes (C, Fe, Pb)
  • DS Cals, Nucl. Targets just add absorber to
    scintillator planes
  • Magnetized OD (HCAL) frames

Cost Driver 1
  • EDIA
  • Engineering and design is 22 of total cost
  • Need to include ALL required tasks
  • Need to maximize effort to complete on time
  • Complete as much on RD as possible
  • Offload to other institutions

12
Cost Driver 2
  • Steel cost is 35 of total
  • Significant improvement in new quote
  • Do we have everything? Bolts, spacers, clips for
holding ID and nuclear targets (not yet designed)
    are missing
  • Quality is also a big issue (flatness)

13
Steel flatness
  • Driven by desired gap distance of 1/8 (Ron
    Ransome)
  • ASTM standard for plate is MUCH less restrictive
  • Roller leveling of steel or Blanchard grinding of
    plates is probably cost prohibitive

14
ANSI flatness spec(ASTM A6)

Questions to be answered
  • Need to finish design of axial bolts, clips,
    spacers, and ???
  • What testing will be required of finished frames?
  • How many Rochester techs will be available?
  • What will the module fabrication plan look like?
