Cultural Background

• Adults in America usually get a typical minimum
  of 2-week paid vacation in a year. Typically,
  the longer you work for a company, the longer
  vacation you earn. In some Western countries,
  such as Australia, a 4-week paid vacation in a
  year is typical.
• Schools in America usually have a 3-month
  vacation during the summer month of June , July
  and August. Teachers , therefore , have a longer
  vacation than other workers in America.

• Students in America do not typically spend their
  summer vacation studying. It is usually a time
  for rest, relaxation and recreation. Some of them
  work in order to pay for their tuition or to earn
  some pocket money.
• Camping is a common activity during the summer
  months, especially for school students. They will
  go off to a supervised campsite for a week or
  two. They live in dormitory housing and eat in
  dinning halls, usually in a scenic secluded
  wooded area near a lake or river. They learn
  crafts, outdoor living skills, sports , music
  ,art, religion ,etc. People must pay a fee in
  order to attend these camps.

• In Europe, August is the most popular month for
  taking a vacation. In fact, so many people take
  vacation in August, that , if you travel to
  Europe, you may find that some shops and
  restaurants are closed because their owners are
  off on a vacation of their own.
• Winter vacation are less popular because (a)
  there is a short break from school, (b) there are
  fewer hours of daylight in the winter, and (c)
  travel tends to be more difficult in areas where
  there is ice and snow. However, winter sports
  such as snow skiing, snow mobiling and snow
  boarding attract tourists to winter resort areas.
  These sports tend to be expensive and attract
  wealthier tourists
