International Standard Practice in a Global
Industry

• IS provides a common basis of education and
  training.
• IS provides a common basis for implementation of
  software process assessment as well as a means of
  identifying software process improvements.
• IS allows industry-wide comparisons of the state
  of practice to be made, e.g. it has been
  estimated at the majority of software companies
  are at the lower rather than the higher levels of
  process maturity.
