2Joint Theater Level Simulation
- JTLS Oracle Certification/Licensing
- International JTLS Users Conference
- Zafer AKTAN
- October 2006
3JTLS Oracle Certification
- Oracle Database Server 9.2.0.8 or higher is
certified. - 10gR2 (Standard Edition One) is recommended.
- Oracle XE is tested against JTLS and certified
(freely available for download from RA ftp
site). - Forms 6i runtime (client/server) with patchset
18 is still required (freely available for
download from RA ftp site). The new GDP is now a
Java application and uses Oracle thin jdbc driver
(delivered with JTLS). - DDS Forms application is completely ported to the
Oracle 10g iAS EE (10.1.2.0.2 a.k.a. Full
Stack) framework. - Additional applications (such as the new AAR
forms/reports) will be available for the iAS
framework.

8 Oracle Product Desupport Notices
- Oracle Database Server 9i First Edition (9.0.1.x)
and earlier versions are no longer supported by
Oracle Corporation. - Oracle Forms 6i for client/server will no longer
be supported after 2008. - We will contine to maintain/create the custom
runtime for the Forms 6i client/server runtime
for the Linux platform after 2008 (but, can not
guarantee the new database server versions
compatibility). - Users might need to migrate to the iAS framework
behind 2008 for DDS and other Oracle
Forms/Reports based JTLS database applications.

12 Oracle Database Certification Matrix
- Oracle has a certification matrix available via
their online support site called Metalink. - Oracle fully committed to the Linux platform and
supports both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of RH 3
and 4. Oracle recently announced more Enterprise
Level support for the Linux platform (OpenWorld
2006). - For new database server installations, we do
recommend using Oracle 10gR2 Standard Edition One
on Linux. - There is no price difference between 32 bit and
64 bit database server so if available for your
platform use the 64 bit version of the database
server.

15 Oracle Licensing Tips
- Oracle licensing might seem too complicated.
- Oracle might seem too expensive.
- Have you heard the Term licensing ?
- Named user based licensing is complicated,
consider CPU based Term licenses. - How about the new dual core CPU systems ?
- Have you heard the free version of Oracle
(called XE) ? - A free Java IDE called JDeveloper ?
- A free tool called SQL Developer ?

17- Named user based licensing is confusing and
complicated - Consider using CPU based Term licenses instead.
18- How about the dual or multi core CPU licensing ?
19Licensing (continued) How Much ?
- Notes
- The following screen captures are from the Oracle
Online Store. - These prices might be different based on the GSA
or similar discounts (which might be available
for your agency) or in different parts of the
World. - Oracle online store is not available in every
country. - These screen captures are for the Term based
licensing for the 10gR2 database server (standard
edition one and the standard edition) and the
10gR2 iAS (10.1.2.0.2 EE) application server.
