Book Objective and Audience
  • Target audience is policy makers and thought
    leaders in universities, government, industry and
    other professional disciplines (provosts, deans,
    department heads, heads of undergraduate
    programs, leaders of industry who interface and
    participate in universities, education policy
    makers in government and accreditation bodies)
  • Objective is to create policy level awareness and
    support for CDIO
  • Fairly high level rationale, philosophy and
    approach, in a historical and social context
  • Explicitly NOT a handbook for adopters

Book Development Approach
  • Goal is to send a 200 page (A4) manuscript to
    publisher by next May
  • Process is to have a large group each writing a
    modest amount
  • 200 pages - 50 pages of figures, etc 150 pages
    /15 authors 10 pages per author
  • Makes writing doable, but editing more difficult
  • Significant alignment of material with previous
    publications and workshop material
  • Identify lead and chapter authors (done)
  • Lead authors will be responsible for several
    chapters, plus editing
  • Chapter authors will be responsible for chapters
    that deal with there theme
  • Agree to overall outline (done)
  • Develop style guide (done)
  • Develop chapter outlines in detail, with short
    message for boxes (2-3 pp) - this week
  • Finalize first draft by winter meeting
  • Final draft by Spring (annual) meeting

Book Authors
  • Initial lead authors are Ed, Johan and Bill
  • Others will be acknowledged as book authors if
    they contribute to two or more chapters, and take
    a principal role in editing
  • Chapter authors (initial, with lead listed first)
    are listed below
  • Authors will be listed as chapter authors if they
    contributed more than one quarter of the chapter,
    and participated in chapter editing
  • All contributors will be acknowledged as other
    contributors in the introduction

  • List and perhaps have rough drafts or samples
