  • Paul never lost awareness of sins
  • 1 Timothy 1.15, 1 Corinthians 15.9
  • But, he knew he was forgiven, overcame guilt to
    enjoy spiritual security
  • 2 Timothy 4.6-8, 1.12, Philippians 1.21-24
  • Can you join Paul in making these claims?

Must Gods Love Be Earned?
  • Gods forgiveness is undeserved and unmerited
  • John 3.16, Rom 5.6-11, Eph 2.8-9, 2 Tim 1.8-9
  • But cant confuse mercy with approval of sins
  • Romans 3.23, 6.23, Ezekiel 18.20

Must I Punish Myself?
  • When we sin (Rom 3.23, 1 Cor 10.13) we hurt God,
    others, and ourselves (Ps 51.4, 32.3-4) and
    deserve to die (Rom 6.23)
  • But Christ came to remove and remit our sins!
  • 2 Cor 5.21, 1 Cor 15.3, Hebrews 9.6-14
  • Enjoying forgiveness is not a sin, should be
    natural result (cf. Philippians 4.4)

Must I Punish Myself?
  • Why keep remembering what God has forgiven?
  • Many sins never leave our cognizant memory and we
    may even have lasting consequences, but because
    of Gods forgiveness we no longer have to look
    for the punishment of those sins
  • Philippians 3.13-14, Luke 9.62
  • Romans 8.1-2no condemnation for those who are in
    Christ Jesus!!!

  • The joy of forgiveness does not come not from
    hiding, denying, excusing our sins or from
    persecuting ourself (with guilt)
  • It comes from repenting and confessing sins!
