SalesianMore than Just a Sixth Form
46 of Students gained either A or B at A Level.
79 got either A,B or C.
100 Pass Rate A-E at A Level. The vast majority
of students went onto secure their first place
choice for University. BTEC students all passed
with flying colours all got their chosen career
path or university choice.

Curriculum
  • Year 13 curriculum consists of the following
  • Three A2 courses/BTEC courses
  • One-to-One session every fortnight
  • Weekly Assembly
  • General PE
  • General RE/Extended Project
  • Supervised Study sessions 5 hours of
    independent study needed per week, per subject

How A-Levels work
  • 1st Year of study is called A/S
  • A 60 UCAS points
  • B 50 UCAS points
  • C 40 UCAS points
  • D 30 UCAS points
  • E 20 UCAS points
  • And typically comprises of between 2-3 modules.
  • Students must gain three D grades or above in
    order to continue on to the 2nd year of study
  • In your 2nd Year if you continue the same course
    you take a further 2-3 modules and the
    qualification is called A2
  • A 140
    UCAS points
  • A 120 UCAS points
  • B 100 UCAS points
  • C 80 UCAS points
  • D 60 UCAS points
  • E 40 UCAS points

New starred A grades
  • First being awarded in August 2010.
  • To get an A, you must meet the following two
    requirements
  • - 80 UMS overall (i.e. the current
    requirements for an A).
  • - 90 UMS overall in the A2 units.
  • You don't get an A for 90 overall. Only the A2
    units (i.e. the units normally taken in Year 13)
    count towards the award of an A. Even if you get
    100 in your AS units, 89 in your A2 ones isn't
    enough for an A.

University offers
  • Offers to university are typically made on either
  • - straight offers eg BBC or
  • - UCAS points - eg 300 pts or
  • - Mixture egat least 2 Bs rest to make up
    260 pts.
  • Predicted grades going given to university will
    be based on what students achieve this year.
  • If you go onto take Critical Thinking and
    successfully complete the Extended Project with
    at least 3 A2 together with some community work
    then youll qualify for the English Baccalaureate

The one to one tutorials
  • Meet once a fortnight.
  • Tutors will discuss their minimum expected grades
  • Discuss any relevant pastoral or academic issues
    monitor progress
  • Take responsibility for identifying own learning
    gap and work out how to address it
  • Agree one target with three steps to success to
    be met for the next tutorial

Supervised Study
  • Independent work outside of the lesson time.
  • A way of structuring the students time outside of
    the contact time to help prepare them for further
    study.
  • Half of their free time will be set up to be in
    study monitored for attendance.
  • The remaining time is theirs!

UCAS applications
  • On-line application through UCAS
  • One application 5 choices of course
  • Deadline for 2010 entry
  • 15th January 2010
  • 15th October 2009 (Oxbridge, Medicine, Dentistry,
    Vet. Med)
  • Apply as early as possible
  • UCAS forwards application to universities
  • School deadline is Friday 11th December 2009
  • Bear in mind that it will take two weeks to turn
    an application around.

  • They do get read
  • Personal no templates
  • Several drafts be patient
  • Simple and concise language
  • Be accurate check spelling and grammar
  • One personal statement for all 5 choices

  • Motivation to study chosen course
  • Strong academic profile
  • Evidence of work experience
  • Positions of responsibility and achievements
  • Hobbies and interests
  • The Personal Statement should reflect the
    students interests, abilities and personality
