KY Tech Beauty Tip
Face Shape Determines Haircut
There are seven basic face shapes a
cosmetologist needs to fully understand before
creating the right style for any customer. The
face types include oval, round, square, diamond,
pear, oblong, and heart. Most individuals have a
combination of at least two face shapes. The
most desired face shape is the oval because it is
the most balanced and can be fashioned in
numerous styles. The round face shape
requires a style or cut that brings the hair
toward the face on each side, has height on top
and may have some length on the neck. The
square is very similar to the round however, the
style requires more hair to fill in around the
square jaw-line. The diamond shape is
narrow in the forehead and chin, which requires a
style that covers a part of the forehead. A
small amount of hair should be cut flowing toward
the cheeks. To bring out the narrow chin, the
hair should be cut away from the face, yet some
hair flipped up or outward in the back. The
pear shape is narrow in the forehead and widest
in the jaw and chin. The best style is for the
forehead to be partially covered, height in the
top, hair brought around the jaw and length on
the neck. The oblong face is long and
narrow. It requires a flatter crown with the
width being at the jaw-line. The heart shape
is widest at the forehead and narrowest at the
chin. It requires a cut that covers most of the
forehead with height in the top, fringe around
the upper cheek area and hair kicked out away
from the jaw-line.
