Title: Anytime, Anywhere learning
1Anytime, Anywhere learning
- Hershey Public School
- Proposal for Fall 2006
2Technology concerns
- Ability to integrate technology into current
curriculum is being held back by student desktop
availability. - Student desktops are becoming outdated.
- 21st Century Skills require frequent access to
technology.
3Availability
- Current student to desktop ratio for core
curriculum integration is 41 - 25 in free lab, 24 in wireless laptop cart, 10 in
library/260 7-12 students - Daily we have more classrooms that would like to
integrate technology into their curriculum and
not enough free student computers to satisfy
their needs.
4Technology Concerns Age
- Most of the 7-12 student computers are old,
outdated and need to be replaced. - 25 of them are in the computer lab
- 25 are in the business lab
- 16 are located in 7-12 teacher classrooms
- 24 are located on a wireless laptop cart
- Total of 90 computers
5Supporting Data
Fifty randomly selected 7-12 students completed
technology survey on 12-15-05
Sixteen 7-12 grade teachers completed technology
survey on 12-8-05
6- Fifty 7-12 grade students were surveyed on
December 15, 2005.

7Student Usage Availability 76 of the student
body said that they use computers at school for
notes, assignments or class projects.

computer for notes, assignments or school
projects if they had access to their own computer.

97-12 Teacher Survey Subject Technology Usage
1075 of the teachers integrate technology projects
into their curriculum each semester.
A 1-2 B 3-4 C 5-6 D Not at all
1175 of the staff surveyed said that they would
integrate technology into their curriculum more
often if the students had availability to their
own computer.
12Teacher comments supplied on survey
- The computer lab is not very accessible because
of classes in there certain periods. The
computers in the labs also need replaced.
13Teacher comments cont
- It may not be the technology but the
availability to computers. We have more students
than computers and scheduling the use with other
classes makes it difficult to do a lot of work
with computers with a class especially over a
long period of time
14Possible student solution to age and
accessibility concerns
- Allow more student accessibility by providing
each 9-12 student with their own laptop to use at
school and at home. - Provide one laptop mobile lab for 7-8th students
15Possible teacher solution
- Provide a laptop for every K-12 staff member.
- Current teacher workstations would be utilized in
elementary classrooms as extra student computers
and in the elementary reading lab.
16Possible administrative solution
- Provide each administrator and board member with
a laptop. - It is important that technology integration is
used as a tool to improve productivity/achievement
at all levels in the school, not just in the
classroom. - There will be less need for the extra computer
lab it could be converted to a different type
of a classroom.
17Is our staff ready for this progressive step?
- According to the student survey the students feel
that the staff is ready.
18Is technology currently being used in the
classroom?
96 percent of the students polled said that
technology is being used in their classrooms.

40Next Steps
- If plan seems feasible we need to visit schools
who have a 11 initiative in place. - Create a technology committee that is made up of
parents, community, staff and board - Work with ESU 10 to find solution on how to store
files on and off site. - Make a decision by late spring.
