Title: September 2004
1September 2004 Dear Parents, It was so wonderful
meeting all of you at Back-to-School Night! We
truly have a wonderful class, as well as neat
parents. I am thrilled to be working with you
and your child this year. Here is a look at what
we will be doing in our classroom through the
month of September. Please try to look for the
bright pink paper at the beginning of each month.
Reading We will be finishing up our
Kindergarten review of all our letter names and
their sounds. We will be diving into our formal
reading program with our first theme, All
Together Now. During this theme, we will be
studying consonants, as well as blending them
with short vowels (-at, -an, -it, and ig). We
will begin our study of sight words. The words
we will be learning are go, on, the, and, here,
jump, not, too, we, a, find, have, one, to,
who. Writing We will be practicing the correct
formation of capital and lowercase letters. We
will learn about ending sentences with a period,
and beginning them with a capital letter. Math
We will be studying patterns, attributes, and
sorting. We will be working on estimation of a
variety of objects, as well as graphing a variety
of objects. We will also practice our number
writing and counting. Content (Science, Social
Studies, etc.) We will finish up our unit of
All About Me. We will begin our study of
pedestrian safety, bus safety, and safety here at
school. We are also working on rules, choices,
and consequences. Homework I appreciate all of
your help in having the homework pages returned
daily. They will continue through September 10.
On Monday, September 13, look for the reading
envelope Monday-Thursday.
Thank you for your overwhelming response on our
class Giving Tree. It is so helpful to receive
your donations. I am also very grateful for the
amount of volunteers. It truly makes a
difference in your childs education. Below is
the schedule of our volunteers. If you have any
questions about it, give me a call. If you
signed up for Fairy Tale Friday, look for a
schedule to come home on Friday,, September 3.
If you signed up for some Math Munchies, I will
send home a reminder 1 week before we need them.
Thanks again for your willingness to help our
class. I look forward to working with you this
year. If you have any questions, please dont
hesitate to contact me. I am at the school
between the hours of 800-400, except on
Wednesdays (when I leave right after school for
my Reading Endorsement Classes). Thanks again
for all of your support. Sincerely, Emily Child
