• EXERCISE 1
• A department at the U of A recently hired a
  foreign Associate Professor. The department also
  wants to hire her foreign husband is pleased that
  he already holds an Open Spousal Work Permit.
• Can the department hire the husband?
• Before hiring the husband, what
  immigration-related factors should be considered
  by the department and/or the husband?

• EXERCISE 2
• A faculty member in your department asks you if
  it is possible for them to appoint an individual
  as a postdoc if they are also registered in the
  Post Graduate Medical Education Program (PGME).
• Is this possible?
• If they are registered in both the Faculty of
  Graduate Studies and the PGME, can they be
  appointed as a postdoc?

• EXERCISE 3
• Your employee was given a work permit to cover
  January 1 to December 31, 07. Although he
  agreed to work another 6 months beyond December
  31st, he waited till nearly the end of the year
  (December 28th) to apply for a new work permit.
  Immigration has since told him that the new work
  permit wont arrive till March.
• Can he keep working and be paid after December
  31st?
• Why or why not?

• Can this be done?
• Can a Professor Emeritus supervise?

• A Korean national has a 2-year post-grad work
  permit and has been working with you ever since
  he graduated from U of T. Immigration recently
  made changes to allow foreign grads to work for 3
  years.
• Can your employee continue working for an
  additional year under immigrations post-grad
  employment program?
• If so, what must he do?
