Improving their chances
  • Make sure the reps know your student college
    fairs, campus visit, Monarch visit (visit
    schedule in Naviance/Family Connection), phone
    calls, emails, events
  • Be specific about their extracurriculars
    leadership, initiative, uniqueness
  • Avoid application mistakes
  • Respond to the essay prompt
  • Double check the final product
  • Submit before the deadline
  • Dont do your students application!

  • Professional correspondence with colleges
  • Keep updated in Naviance/Family Connection

  • Be careful NOTHING is private what is out
    there is what people think about your student

FAQs
  • Whats important to know about the essay?
  • Answer the prompt.
  • Explain anything in the transcript that needs
    addressing.
  • Show something about the student that is NOT
    already obvious anywhere else in the application.
  • Show who you are not what you do.
  • Get help teacher, parent, counselor, websites,
    books there are lots of resources out there.

  • How many Letters of Recommendation should my
    student send?
  • 2 teachers
  • 1 counselor
  • But only if the college asks for recommendations.

FAQs
  • What is Early Action and Early Decision?
  • Early Action Colleges will look at the
    application early and will notify the student of
    their admission decision within a few weeks. The
    student is not obligated to attend that college.
  • Early Decision Students apply to a college early
    and if accepted the student MUST attend that
    college. A signed contract is involved with the
    application.

FAQs
  • Does my student need to send his/her ACT and SAT
    scores to each school?
  • The state ACT (given in April of their junior
    year) is required to be submitted with their
    transcript from Monarch.
  • All other scores are owned by the student the
    student is responsible for contacting the College
    Board and ACT to have their scores sent.
  • This is a new procedure for BVSD with the class
    of 2010

FAQs
  • When does my student need to send his/her
    transcript?
  • With initial fall applications.
  • If requested by a college in January, so they
    can see 7th semester grades.
  • WE automatically send a final transcript in June
    to the college the student will attend in the
    fall. (no cost to the student)
