4X4L Programme
- X4L is a current JISC programme, which is
exploring the re-purposing of JISC-funded
content, suitable for use in learning. - Strand A - 22 Content Production Projects
- Strand B - Tools Development
-
- JORUM Repository Research Development
- RELOAD Packaging Learning Design, available
now free open source - TOIA question and assessment application,
soon to be released to UK FE HE communities
5X4L Interoperability
- Interoperability - the ability of two or more
systems or components to exchange information and
to use the information that has been exchanged.. - users are not locked into proprietary systems
- transportable between different systems
- production of conformant reusable LOs that are
re-purposable - accessible to a range of tools and LMS
6Why interoperability? - Scenarios
- 1 - lecturer finds content that another has put
into a repository - - exports that content and runs it from a VLE
- 2 - resource team finds content that a lecturer
has put into a repository - - resource team re-purposes that content
- - resource team exports that content and runs
it from a VLE

9Specifications
- The main specifications of interest are
- IEEE LOM (learning object metadata)
- IMS Content Packaging
- IMS QTI (question test interoperability)
- ADL SCORM (sharable content object reference
model)
10Demonstration Aims
- What are the aims of the demonstration?
- Show that we can transport packages between
systems - Can make packages available to users through a
variety of players - Show how conformance facilitates re-purposing of
content - Identify areas requiring further progress, such
as qti
11Demonstration
What is being demonstrated ?
- search and retrieve content from JORUM
- export and open in RELOAD
- re-purpose in RELOAD
- search and retrieve questions from TOIA
- aggregate with content using 3rd party player and
RELOAD - import into VLEs (Olympus WebCT)

14Summary
- What have we been able to show?
- can exchange objects between repository systems
- can export objects from repositories and
re-purpose in other tools - can import qti assessments into existing
content, but currently with some intervention - Can transport this re-purposed content to a
number of VLEs
