5Healthcare for London
- NHS London Programme for IT Scene Setting
- Wanda Hemmings
6Background
- NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT) was
launched in 2002 - It is the largest non-military IT project in the
world - A key driver was the first Wanless Report
- This highlighted the need for investment in the
NHS and IT in particular in order to modernise
service delivery
7Vision for NHS Care Records Service
- Electronic patient records for every patient
- Secure but accessible by patients and those
caring for them - Replace NHS current fragmented systems that mean
information is locked into silos - Up-to-date patient information will be available
whenever and where ever they are seen

22What we need to do
- Refresh the strategic vision in context of
Healthcare for London and the Informatics Review
to ensure it meets the needs of the NHS - Work with suppliers and the NHS to make the
products more attractive - Get better user buy in by improving the
governance arrangements - Drive more flexibility into the LSP contract so
that the needs of the end user are given greater
priority
