4Data
- Data as used in the production of the Performance
indicators (PIs) - PIs, at institution/sector level, cover
- Widening participation
- Employment
- Research quantity and
- Non-continuation.
5Information sources
- Most of the information comes from the Higher
Education Statistics Agency (HESA) student record - Each HE institution has to submit details of all
its students to HESA every year - Non-continuation indicators rely on tracking
students from one years HESA record to the next
6Non-continuation PIs
- There are three indicators
- Table T3 shows the percentage of entrants not
continuing beyond their first year at an
institution - Table T4 provides information about those not
continuing beyond their first year at an
institution (what proportion returned after one
year gap) - Table T5 shows what percentage are projected
eventually to leave with no qualification, and
what percentage are projected to obtain a degree
7Non-continuation PIs
- Focus on the first of these (T3 not continuing)
for - Full-time
- Entrants in academic year 2003-04
- First-degree
- Registered at UK HEIs
- Examining whether they are still in HE in 2004-05
