  • Some things observed when starting 12 Planet
  • Allow at least 3 weeks for collaboration to
    become effective
  • Do not put blocks in but use timing instead.
Remember as you create Grid forecast keep in mind
that the grids are used for
  • Graphics
  • Point and click forecasts
  • Animation
  • Forecasters are afraid to go to extremes
  • HPC discussion in chatroom at 12Z
  • View ISC grids from start. Dont wait until the
    end to use ISC

20
  • Look at breakpoints especially when collaborating
    POPs and
  • Cloud Cover. If different, then look in between
    for differences.
  • Concentrate on days 1 to 3. Days 4 through 7
    should only be changed
  • when really necessary.
  • Give me a reason to change
  • Nudging vs. new forecast
  • Geopolitical boundary forecasts not thinking
    gradients but absolutes.
  • Dont do the forecast and leave, stay in the chat
    room
  • Avoid wheeling and dealing

21
  • Potential problems
  • Local models
  • Collaborating and changing first 6 hours.
  • If you are updating, send a chat message before,
    not
  • after changes
  • You are responsible for discrepancies, not just
    your forecast
  • Dont just say Id like to change, give reasoning
    but not a novel
  • or dissertation
  • HPC is monitoring, you can chat with them
  • If you are running late, say so
  • During the shift briefing, include strategy of
    grids
