Liquids and Gases.
  • Liquids
  • Liquids cannot be compressed.
  • Liquids flow.
  • A liquid takes the shape of its container.
  • The volume of the liquid stays the same.
  • Gases.
  • Gases can be compressed easily.
  • Gases flow .
  • A gas takes the shape of the whole of a
    container.
  • A gas has no definite volume.

4
Solids.
  • Solids cannot be compressed.
  • Solids do not flow.
  • The shape of a solid always stays the same.
  • The volume of a solid stays the same.

5
Separating.
  • A solution is formed when sugar is dissolved in
    tea.
  • Too much sugar and it becomes saturated.
  • Things that dissolve are called soluble.
  • Things that dont dissolve are called insoluble.
  • The sugar can be recovered by evaporation.

6
Filtering.
  • Filtering is when you recover the solid from the
    liquid.
  • E.g Coffee.
  • Coffee is filtered to remove suspended solids.

7
Decanting.
  • If you have water and sand and you pour the water
    off that is called decanting.
  • Condensation.
  • Condensation is when steam turns back into liquid.

8
Molecules.
  • Everything is made out of atoms.
  • A molecule is two or more atoms joined together
    E.g Water.
  • H20 consists of two hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen
    atom.

9
Dilution.
  • When you add water to things they become diluted
    or weaker.
  • They are said to be less concentrated .
