1
SIR ISAAC NEWTONS
3 LAWS OF MOTION
2
NOTE TWO OBJECTS OF UNEQUAL MASSES WHEN
DROPPED WILL HIT THE GROUND AT THE SAME TIME
UNLESS ONE OBJECT HAS MORE SURFACE SPACE FOR AIR
RESISTANCE TO PUSH AGAINST.
Which will hit the ground first the sheet of
paper or the balled up paper? Why?
3
Newton's 1st Law of Motion
An object will stay at rest unless a force (push
or pull) moves it. Likewise, an object will stay
in motion unless something stops it.
The boat goes no where unless there is a force to
pull it.
4
Newton's 2nd Law of Motion
Two pro wrestlers pushing on a stalled car will
get it going sooner than just one could. Those
two wrestlers would need to use more force to
push a school bus than to push a Volkswagen bug.

Acceleration rate depends on the amount of force
and what the mass of the object is.
The force of gravity accelerates every object
(regardless of mass) at the same rate 9.81 m/s/s
(meters per second squared). Every second, the
object goes 9.81 m/s faster per second. (See
next slide for more info)

Earth and egg pull on one another (down arrow) to
overcome air resistance (up arrow)
Newton's 3rd Law of Motion
If one object exerts a force on another object,
the other object exerts an equal force back on
the first object.
Force of gravity pulls on the egg the ground
strikes back at the egg with the equal force that
the egg strikes the ground.

So what does this all mean when it comes to our
egg drop?
Newtons 1st law?
Newtons 2nd law?
Newtons 3rd law?
