South Conway Parents

• The coaches invite all parents to help generate
  curriculum with their children. This mom was a
  hairdresser. Her daughter interviewed her as the
  class looked on and thought about questions of
  their own.

Teachers and coaches.

• Work diligently to encourage the language
  development of the classes. The group consists of
  a combination first and second grade group that
  is called Kid Mix.
• The atmosphere is one of a relaxed home.

Artifacts of the Hairdressers Trade

• Wigs bring on a flurry of questions.
• The students learn that this mom works with
  cancer patients to transform their hair loss into
  a better experience.
• She also discusses work that she does as a part
  of her debt to the community. This mom helps
  families that are bereaved as she works to
  prepare their loved ones for funerals.
• These students learn through their inquiry that
  she makes lots of money.

Getting the beach entertainers ready...

• The work to get the guitarists and beach dancers
  ready takes a great deal of time.
• The work requires sewing the hair into the
  entertainers real hair.
• The guest demonstrates how the work is done.

Transforming the world...

• There is no doubt that the children and parents
  are valued in this classroom. The coaches are
  practicing transformational literacy.
• The children generate talk, questions, and
  writing through this classroom project.
