Completing the Midyear ReportSample Reading
Narrative
  • Overall, on the Winter SSS Diagnostic Test
    (compared to fall)
  • 23 of 9th graders scored in Level 1 a
decrease of 6 from the fall
  • 43 of 10th graders scored in Level 1 a
decrease of 5 from the fall
  • On the SRI, 18 of 9th graders and 35 of 10th
graders scored in Level 1. The differences in
the percent in Level 1 from fall to winter was
similar to the differences on the SSS Diagnostic
    (5 for 9th and 10th).
  • Our disaggregated data indicates that
  • 70 of the 9th grade students were
    lower-performing fairly consistently in every
    area (comparison, main idea, reference-research,
    words/phrases)
  • 75 of the 10th grade students were lower
performing in main idea and research, and 69
were lower performing in comparison and
    words/phrases.
  • Black, white, and Hispanic students scored
approximately the same (within 3-4), but our ESE
students scored significantly lower on every
    area.
  • Our plans for remediation include
  • Hire a Reading Coach (2) schedule Level 1
students into Intensive Reading (3) administer
two common (mini) assessments on Main Idea and
Authors purposedata from these assessments will
be compiled and disaggregated teachers will use
the information to identify students for
reteaching and remediation (4) implement the
    K-12 Comprehensive Reading Plan recommended
rotational reading model for secondary schools
    (5) develop a new instructional focus calendar to
remediate weaker areas (6) provide staff
development during PDDs and LTMs on
    research-based reading strategies (7) conduct
    classroom walkthrough visits by
