Student Teaching Applications
  • All applications must be typed.
  • Limit your responses to the space allotted per
    question (do not include the internship
    questionnaire).
  • Bring five copies of the application to the
    Student Teaching Office (Heaton Hall Room 102B)
    by the deadline date.

  • Applications must be submitted in person from
    830-500 to Ms. Diane Graham or Dr. Cindy
    Boettcher do not leave your application with
    anyone else.
  • The last day to make any changes in your
    application is Friday, February 11, 2005.

Student Teaching ClearingTLAC
  • TLAC advising appointments for January 24th
    through February 11th are reserved for Fall 2005
    student teachers only. Call 845-5312 to make an
    appointment.
  • Students will be seen from 815-515 M-R and
    900-215 Saturday, January 29, 2005. (Fridays
    are reserved for walk-in only).
  • ALL TLAC STUDENT TEACHERS MUST BE SEEN BY Friday,
    February 11, 2005.

COURSE WORK
  • All course work must be completed prior to
    student teaching.
  • No classes may be taken during student teaching.
  • Correspondence courses are no longer allowed for
    Education Majors.

GRADES
  • Grades for all transfer courses must be
    officially recorded on the TAMU computer grade
    system no later than July 15, 2005, unless you
    are in second summer session. Don't assume it has
    been transferred for you.
  • Official transcripts should be sent to Office of
    Admissions and Records- P.O. Box 30014-CS, TX
    77842-3014.

    your grades have been transferred.

FINANCIAL AIDSCHOLARSHIPSMEDICAL INSURANCE
  • Since student teaching is 6 or 9 hours, you may
    need to request a "Letter of Full Time Status".
    This letter will identify you as a full time
    student.
  • Visit with your Financial Aid counselor or
    insurance carrier prior to registration to
    determine if this document is needed.
    Instructions for obtaining it will be in your
    placement letter.

TLAC STUDENT REGISTRATION FOR 12 HOURS
  • If the Letter of Full Time Status does not
    meet your requirements, and you need to be
    enrolled in 12 hours register for

HLKN PLACEMENT NOTIFICATION
  • Kinesiology students will receive placements upon
    successful defense of their portfolios.
  • Health students placements will be posted on the
    HLKN student teaching bulletin board.

TLAC/SPED/BILPLACEMENT NOTIFICATION
  • Placement letters may be picked up in Heaton
    Hall Reception Area on
  • Thursday, April 28th
  • 330-500 pm
  • Friday, April 29th
  • 1230-230 pm

START DATES
  • Student teaching will begin the first day of
    school in the district where the student teacher
    has been assigned.
  • Please make plans to begin student teaching
    sometime during the second or third week of
    August.

HLKN SECOND STUDENT TEACHING MEETING
  • Second Student Teaching Meeting will be held on
    Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at 900 am, location TBA.
  • You will need to download and bring the HLKN
    Student Teaching Handbook at www.coe.tamu.edu/sth
    andbook.

TLAC/SPED/BIL STUDENT TEACHER ORIENTATION
  • All student teachers will meet their university
    supervisors for an orientation during the first
    days of school. (All SPED meet with Pat Lynch at
    TAMU date TBA.)
  • Information about the meeting will be in the
    Placement Letter concerning time and location for
    this meeting.
  • You will need to download and bring the
    TLAC/BESL/SPED Student Teaching Handbook
    atwww.coe.tamu.edu/sthandbook.

CERTIFICATION APPLICATION
  • Application for certification will require a 77
    fee and is completed on-line at
    http//www.sbec.state.tx.us.
  • Fingerprinting is now required for all applicants
    for teacher certification. This form is sent
    directly to you as soon as you apply online at
    the SBEC website. There is a 47 fee for this
    service once the fingerprint card is returned to
    SBEC.

CERTIFICATION
  • Blocks, fines, etc. must be cleared in order for
    the Certification Office to recommend you to the
    State.
  • You will receive a standard certificate that
    must be renewed every five years with 150 clock
    hours of professional development.

TExES EXAMS
  • It is recommended that you take the content TExES
    exam during your methods semester and the PPR
    during student teaching.
  • School districts will not sign a contract with
    you without successfully passing both exams.
  • Study Guide booklets may be found at
    www.texes.nesinc.com/.

TExES EXAMS REGISTRATION
  • Registration may now be completed online.
  • A barcode should be requested from the
    Certification Office by registering online at
    least five days prior to regular registration
    deadline.
  • Go to the College of Educations website at
    http//www.coe.tamu.edu/. Access college
    offices, next Certification Office, and then
    Application.

TExES EXAM REGISTRATION
  • Upon receiving the barcode, you may then register
    for the exams at the NES website
    www.texes.nesinc.com/
  • Be aware of the deadlines that are posted on this
    website. Late registration is an additional
    30.00 emergency registration is an additional
    70.00.

TExES EXAM COSTS
  • There is an 82 charge for each exam.
  • This charge can be paid by Visa or MasterCard
    when registering via internet or telephone.

TExES EXAMS REQUIRED
  • All students must take the appropriate PPR and
    content or subject area(s) exams.
  • Students seeking certification for Spanish,
    French, or Bilingual Education at either the
    Elementary or Secondary level must also take the
    TOPT (Texas Oral Proficiency Test).

EMPLOYMENT DURING STUDENT TEACHING
  • Student teaching is considered a full-time job so
    employment is discouraged.
  • If necessary, working must be limited to no more
    than 10-12 hours per week, preferably on
    weekends.

    and bring it to the orientation meeting at the
    beginning of your student teaching semester.

MAKE-UP MEETING DATE
  • A make-up meeting will be held on Friday, January
    28, 2005, at 200 pm Heaton Hall Reception Area.
  • You must attend to be placed for student
    teaching.
