  • Safety at the University
  • of Adelaide

  • This short induction program will teach you about
    what to do in an emergency while youre at
    University.
  • This is important information and should be easy
    for you to remember.
  • You need to know this information to obtain after
    hours access into this building, and most
    importantly, to keep safe.

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
  • If you hear an ALARM in the building, there is an
    emergency.
  • Click to hear what the alarms sound like
  • This is an ALERT TONE
  • Alert means be AWARE that there is an
    emergency.
  • This is an EVACUATION TONE
  • Evacuate means everyone must leave the
    building.

  • If you hear the alarms you must follow the
    instructions of our Fire Wardens
  • Luke van Trigt
  • Kate Pollitt
  • They will tell you what to do. Listen carefully
    and follow their instructions.
  • They will be wearing a red or yellow helmet.

  • In an EVACUATION situation
  • Walk down to the ground floor using the Fire
    Stairs
  • The Fire Stairs are next to the Male and Female
    toilets.
  • Go to the Evacuation Point on North Terrace
  • It is in front of a building called Masonic
    Hall
  • Wait outside until you are told it is safe to
    come back inside.

  • Names, locations and phone numbers for the Fire
    Wardens are located in front of the lifts.
  • Here you will also find a map showing where the
    stairs and exits are, and how to get to the
    evacuation point.

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
  • If you are hurt or see someone have an accident,
    you must tell our First Aid Officers
  • Luke van Trigt
  • Sharon Wilson
  • Luke and Sharon are trained to treat injuries and
    know what to do. Tell them everything you can
    about the injury or accident.

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
  • You must complete an Incident Report Form if you
    are injured at University.
  • This is important because the University needs to
    keep records of all Occupational Health and
    Safety Incidents.
  • The form is not kept with your student records.
    It is filed at the Occupational Health and Safety
    Unit.
  • Luke, Sharon or the Postgraduate Resource Centre
    staff will help you to complete the form.

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS After Hours
  • After Hours means after 5pm or before 8am.
  • If you are studying here AFTER HOURS Kate, Luke
    or Sharon may not be here to help you.
  • Remember
  • If there is ANY emergency, call Security on 8303
    5444
  • You can call them from your mobile phone or from
    the Emergency Phone in the Kitchen.

  • If there is a fire EVACUATE!
  • Use the fire stairs.
  • Tell your friends and other people on the floor
    to leave with you.
  • Call Security as you leave the building.
  • Security will call the Fire Brigade and raise the
    alarm to alert everyone.

  • If you are hurt or there is any other type of
    emergency, call Security for help.
  • Call Security if you feel unsafe
  • if you see someone acting suspiciously
  • if you feel threatened by someones behaviour
  • Make sure you tell Security everything that
    happened.
  • They will complete an Incident Report Form with
    the details you give them.

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS Safety after Dark
  • There is a SAFE WALKING PATH throughout the
    University Campus. Stick to this if it is dark
    when you leave University.
  • There are Emergency Phones on the Walking Track
    and in front of all buildings which you can use
    if you feel unsafe. They are Blue and White.
  • Try to stay in a group with your friends or
    classmates.

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS Safety after Dark
  • Security can walk with you to your car or home if
    it is late when you leave University. You must
    call them at least 30 minutes before you need to
    leave.
  • Call 8303 5990 for all Non-Emergency calls to
    Security.
