State of play within the EU

• In countries, like Sweden, where non resistant
  varieties like Bintje and King Edward still are
  grown on substantial areas the Potato Wart
  Disease can still be found
• In SE in most cases in private gardens and
  allotments.

Council Directive 69/464/E - in short

• Concerns minimum measures to be taken by MS to
  control Potato Wart Disease and prevent its
  spread
• When found, MS shall demarcate the contaminated
  plot and a safety zone large enough to ensure the
  protection of the surrounding areas

Control measures 1

• Infested material shall be treated so that the
  harmful organism is destroyed
• On the contaminated plot no potatoes may be grown
  nor plants intended to be transplanted
• In the safety zone only resistant varieties may
  be grown

Control measures 2

• MS may revoke measures when the organism is no
  longer to be found present
• MS shall yearly communicate to the Commission a
  list of all the resistant varieties accepted by
  them and state to which races the varieties are
  resistant

• Commission shall ensure that a list of resistant
  varieties, based on the communications from the
  MS, is published each year
