3The Basic Idea
- HKU and the Faculty of Law have
- exchange agreements with a number
- of other partner universities.
- Our partners take an agreed number
- of our students and we take an agreed
- number of theirs.
4If you go through an exchange programme
- - HKU or the Faculty does the liason with the
- host school
- you only have to pay HKU tuition fees
- you can be sure of being able to transfer your
credits - you can get financial and other assistance.
5If You Want to Apply to Both Schemes
- This year, you must
- (i) Fill in and submit BOTH forms
- the OISE form on line
- and
- the Faculty of Law form in hard copy.
- (ii) Indicate on the Faculty of Law form
- that you have applied for HKU as well.
6What if I only Want to Apply to the University
Scheme?
- Fill in the OISE form on line
- Compete with the rest of the students from all
faculties - Wider choices

- Get priority for Faculty places
- Choose one school and stay with it.
- You can choose to go to

18 Re Recognition of Your Host
Institutions Course by PCLL
- Overseas courses for
- Constitutional Law
- Legal System
- Land Law (including conveyancing)
- will NOT satisfy the requirements for these
- courses.
- Do these courses in Hong Kong.
19- Civil Procedure, Criminal Procedure
- are also increasingly difficult to match in
- another jurisdiction.
- Its a good idea to plan to do these courses
- during your LLB degree or as a conversion
- course.
20- Otherwise, as a general rule of thumb
- Comparable courses in UK or Australia will
- be accepted as satisfying core course
- requirements.
- Comparable courses in Canada may be
- accepted depending on the institution.
21- Some NUS courses may be accepted.
- US courses generally wont be.
- And, or course, civil law jurisdiction courses
- will not be accepted as satisfying these
- prerequisites either.
22WHAT IF I WANT TO DO A MINOR?
- HKU LLB regulations
- Permit a student to take between 36-48 non-law
credits, enough for a minor in another
discipline. - HKU may have no objection to your taking non law
subjects at your host University for this purpose - But check with your host University they may not
allow law students to take non-law credits.
23What if I am a Fast Track Student?
- You need to obtain 174 law credits for your LLB
- 120 of those must be obtained at HKU
- ie 54 law credits can be obtained at an exchange
institution - But, if you intend to enter the PCLL programme,
plan to go on exchange for one semester only.
