5Some Tips onTechnical Paper Presentation
6Text
- Keep the text as brief as possible.
- Data looks better organized easier to
comprehend if given in POINTS. - No more than 10 lines of text (or points) per
slide. - All letters on the slide should be big enough to
make it readable even at the back of the
auditorium.
7Slide Background Readability
Choose an attractive picture (related to your
topic, of course) as the background for your
TITLE slide. For the other following slides,
background and text should be in contrasting
colors.
A light background dark print works well.
A dark background light print also works well.
A dark background dark print??? Not so much...
A light background light print??? Not at all!
8 Graphs Figures
- A well-documented graph or figure is way more
attractive and better than lengthy text. - Tables are difficult to read represent data
graphically whenever possible. - A photograph often is worth a thousand words.
9Speech Slides
- Speak confidently, clearly loudly.
- Neither be too slow nor too fast, speak in a
constant comprehendible speed. - Look at the audience while you speak, not so
much at the judges. - Use a little informal speech so as to capture
the attention of your audience to make it less
boring for them. Continuous scientific speech
will only put them to sleep! - Ask a few questions to the audience so as to
engage them in your presentation. - For a typical 7-minute presentation you should
not exceed 14 slides. - Generally, you will talk at a speed of about
30-45 seconds per slide. This, of course, depends
on how much you put on the slide and how fast you
talk but its a reasonable target. - Including attractive pictures and/or photographs
will make your presentation interesting. - Photographs tables should be explained but not
in detail. - Explain graphs, flow-charts technical
diagrams. - Animate your slides to a minimum, too much
animation will not only increase the size of your
presentation file, it might kill your time as
well. - Always practice your presentation by saying it
out loud many times so as to gauge the timing
before presenting it at the conference.
