- Based on NZ and overseas experience and research
- Discussion paper approved for release by Steve
Maharey Nov 2002 - 2003 DIA initiated an SCD framework
implementation project - LARPs and Sustainable Communities project
- Further work led by MSD on whole of government
framework strategy re sustainable communities

eg. hapu/iwi or ethnic group - Common geography, locality, place
- Administrative or political arrangements
- Similar interest or kaupapa eg. voluntary
organisation, Maori community group, online
virtual community, work (Based on OECD,
1998 Royal Commission on Social Policy, 1988)

- A 3-way partnership between CG, LG and

- a) engage with sectors and groups, expand the
scope of current initiatives toward a truly
sustainable community - b) work as a catalyst and facilitator to engage
parties help mobilise resources, targetting key
enablers of sustainble communities - c) seek out and test appropriate models, tools
practices - d) use the spotlight of the SDPOA to encourage
CG and local government engagement
