The average Sudanese consumes 1/15th of Egyptian
neighbours. Capacity was 728 MW in 2002 Merowe
Dam will double capacity once commissioned.

One of the largest irrigation projects in the
world. Begun by the British in 1925, the scheme
distributes the waters of the Blue Nile through a
2,700-mile, 2.5 million acres (1 million
hectares) network of canals and ditches to
irrigate fields growing cotton and other cash
crops.
