Getting the significance of IMS right

• The telco industry holds a conservative vision of
  SIP and IMS, analyzing their characteristics
  through the prism of legacy telco technologies.
• However SIP focuses on enabling service delivery
  by third parties
• Multimedia may include voice, video, voice bursts
  (push-to-talk), messaging, gaming, application
  sharing, shared browsing, whiteboard
• Media types can be added, removed or replaced at
  any time in the session
• ... and between peers

But this is not the end-gameso, whats next

• P2P SIP
• Operators can still be around to provide Identity
  Management, Trust, preference/profile mediation,
  etc
• IMS is transitional technology. But are not all
  technologies?
• WiFi/SIP enabled phones
• UMA is a dead-end. It does not allow service
  convergence. It extends the Mobile Radio
  Interface over Fixed Broadband.
• Ubiquitous Access and Transport
• Unfettered Access to (Internet) applications
  is Good Business, although access and transport
  are commodity.
