Prayer
  • Logan, the Sky Angel Cowboy! www.youtube.com
  • words have wisdom beyond his years. Since airing
the audio of the phone call and now the making of
the video clip, it has taken on a life (more) )
  • Take a minute if you will to listen to what Logan
    - The Sky Angel Cowboy - tells the DJ's on KSBJ's
Morning show on Monday, Oct. 29th.  What an
awesome young man! I wonder if he realizes just
how many lives he will have touched by his
reaching out for his own comfort and sharing such
    an important message.
  • Click on the link and then click where it says to
    listen to what he said

Aprils sharing words of wisdom
  • I received this quote yesterday and I thought
you'd like it since it goes along with the 2008
    Catholic Schools week theme.
  • "A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes
itself to the light the way for others"
  • Author Unknown

  • Needs to be a balance between
  • Assessment OF learning (how much students learned
    as of a particular time)
  • with
  • Assessment FOR learning (to promote more
    learning)
  • thoughts of Rick
    Stiggins

7
Who is in charge of learning?
  • Multiple choice
  • The student
  • The teacher
  • The parent
  • The prayers

  • Subject You type it, she speaks
  • This is quite amazing. Try it and see!  Turn up
    the volume.
  • She will say anything you type. I sure don't know
how they do this!  When you move the mouse
around, her eyes follow the pointer. When you
write something in the left space and then click
on "Say it," she says it!
  • You can also change persons doing the talking and
    their accent.
  • Technology! Wow !!

Free Rice
  • http//www.freerice.com/ About FreeRice
  • FreeRice is a sister site of the world poverty
    site, Poverty.com.
  • FreeRice has two goals
  • Provide English vocabulary to everyone for free.
  • Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry
    people for free.
  • This is made possible by the sponsors who
    advertise on this site.
  • Whether you are CEO of a large corporation or a
street child in a poor country, improving your
vocabulary can improve your life. It is a great
    investment in yourself.
  • Perhaps even greater is the investment your
donated rice makes in hungry human beings,
enabling them to function and be productive.
Somewhere in the world, a person is eating rice
that you helped provide. Thank you.

Maries question
  • Whats your opinion on doing spelling in jr.
high?  There is only one GLE pertaining to
spelling frequently misspelled words and it
doesnt seem like its part of the comp
curriculum.   Do you know if the other schools
in the diocese still doing spelling lists in Jr.
    High?

13
Martys Questions
  • 1. Is anyone else having problems with using CDs
and/or Internet access in place of take-home
textbooks? It's amazing how many nights there are
problems logging onto the textbook websites and
we've had some technical problems with the CDs,
too. I know this our first year really using
them, so I wanted to see if anyone else has
problems before I go through our literature
    textbook adoption.
  • 2. I am looking for an on-line or correspondence
music theory course for a student who needs an
elective and who's interested in that area. I've
checked with LSU and they have a music
appreciation course but not theory. There is
nothing at LVS, either. We've had students take
correspondence courses through LSU but not from
anywhere else so I just wanted to see if anyone
had any experience with other providers. I've
done some searching and come across several
schools that are accredited by SACS and other
reputable review boards but nothing beats a
    first-hand opinion.

14
Substitutes
  • Are you or your teachers often called to sub for
one another. Are you simply sitting in their seat
and not teaching? When we have a sub, we should
not be losing time of teaching on task.

15
Finances
  • As prices of gas increase, local parishes give
their teachers raises, focus is on energy- I
thought I would share with you some out of the
box ideas that I will present at our next
Development Directors meeting. In an attempt to
implement justice, we want to increase our
teachers salaries, but are faced with the dilemma
of out pricing our parents the opportunity for a
Catholic Education. I encourage you to look at
things differently- as this is merely food for
    thought

16
Think Green
  • Maybe, we should consider making our school more
energy efficient and our goal would be for zero
electric bills. This means going green in small
steps-change light bulbs, green roofs, look into
solar panels. Many businesses and homes are
beginning to make these strides and I encourage
you to look into the possibility. If you did not
have a utility bill each month this would make
those monies available for other expenditures.

17
Green-money
  • Scenario-if your average utility bill is 10,000
    a month for 12 months-that is 120,000 per year
and two years that is a quarter of a million
dollars. So before you say we cant go green
because it cost too much, you spend a quarter of
a million in two years doing what you are doing.

18
Green again
  • School buses-alternative fuel
  • If your school owns a bus or two or a dozen, a
car, a van, etc. then alternative fuel and energy
    efficient is food for thought.

19
Possible course
  • Green chemistry The development of products that
    won't hurt the environment
  • Only about a dozen colleges teach green
    chemistry
  • Yale chemistry director Green chemistry is
    useless unless it is profitable
  • Businesses are seeking graduates with backgrounds
    in green chemistry

20
Save money contd
  • Paper-Most of our schools lease a copier at
approximately 800 a month which as about 10,000
a year just for the machines use. And then
10,000 worth of paper which totals 20,000 a
year. If just during Lent , we fasted and
abstained from running off copies think of the
    money and trees saved.

  • True field studies versus field trips from Ron
    Clark Academy
  • The curriculum at the Ron Clark Academy will
cover the basic requirements according to
Georgias standard course of study. In addition,
students will be exposed to classes and programs
where they will learn and be involved with
photography, dancing, music production, the art
of design, dramatic performance, and business
    leadership.
  • Our international trips will be integrated
throughout the curriculum, and exposing students
to new cultures and situations are keys to our
philosophy. In addition to the international
trips, each class will travel on as many as 30
field trips each year to a world that they, in
many cases, have never imagined. Art museums,
    Broadway shows, cultural festivals, and
professional sporting events are just some of the
ways that their eyes will be opened to the
reality of diverse and rich cultures, sometimes
within Atlanta, and sometimes around our country
    and throughout the world.
  • These will be educational trips of the highest
    caliber, providing rich opportunities for
personal and academic growth. As Ron Clark has
done for the last ten years, each field trip will
be fully integrated into the curriculum. When
classes have visited NYC in the past, every
student could name each bird and distinguish
every tree. Before going to Broadway shows, Mr.
Clark had his students read the story, learn the
songs, and research the architecture of the
theater. Before going to the bowling alley, Mr.
Clark visited himself, measured the lanes and
used the dimensions on worksheets. He also used
the bowling pins to teach fractions, and took the
prices from the snack shop and used them in math
class. On every trip, whether it is up the street
or across the globe, the Ron Clark Academy will
make every moment a learning opportunity because
as Mr. Clark, has learned children must have a
connection to something before they will
appreciate it. After preparing our students so
thoroughly for each trip, they will truly get the
most out of the experience and internalize all
    that they have learned.

Good Books
  • Good Books
  • 1. Unveiled Tamar (Lineage of Grace, Number 1)
Her name meant "date palm," and like her
namesake, Tamar hoped to survive the harsh
environment she was placed in to bend but not to
break. Rubbed with scented oil and arrayed in
wedding finery, 14-year-old Tamar is thrust into
a world of abuse, betrayal, and disillusionment
when she is given in marriage to an evil,
idol-worshiping man. In the face of her
suffering, she must make choices Will she let
her new husband, Er, destroy her innocence and
corrupt her? Will she leave the religion of the
Canaanites and embrace the God of the Hebrews
despite the life of misery she is cast into? Or
will she fall into despair and become as wicked
as her husband and his brothers?
  • Unveiled is the first in award-winning veteran
author Francine Rivers' Lineage of Grace series
of five novellas, which feature biblical women in
the genealogy of Christ Tamar, Rahab, Ruth,
Bathsheba, and Mary. This dramatic retelling of
the scandalous risks Tamar must take to ensure
her place in biblical history showcases Rivers'
ability to sketch a short vignette of an ancient
character and bring her to life in the minds of
contemporary readers. The twin themes of sin's
    consequences and God's redemption resonate
throughout the pages of this engrossing novella.

  • 2. Unashamed (Lineage of Grace 2) (Hardcover)
    Bestselling Christian author Francine Rivers
recreates the significant acts of Rahab, a
prostitute of Jericho who was instrumental in
bringing about its destruction. Anita Lustrea
delivers the story clearly and sincerely. As an
early feminist, Rahab stands out as a beacon of
    self-acceptance, spurning her family's and
society's opinions to fulfill the sacred
knowledge burning within her. Her ensuing love
and marriage was the beginning of a bloodline
that yielded King David and, ultimately, Jesus,
according to the text. Good storytelling and a
    family-safe delivery

29
  • 3. Unshaken-Ruth (Lineage Of Grace V3) A
beautiful retelling of the story of Ruth, Naomi,
and Boaz by award-winning author Francine Rivers.
Readers will be encouraged by the truth that God
will faithfully provide for His children even
    when all hope seems lost.
