The history and development of civic education in
Thailand Can be divided into four major periods
- Pre Modernization Period (before 1870)
- The period of monastic education aiming at
preparing the learners for monastic life. - The monasteries were the centers of learning and
culture. - The monks were teachers.
- A picture of civic education evolving from a
non-formal form of education.

- 2. The initial stage of the Modernization Period
(1870-1931) - The establishment of a secular curriculum.
- Schools were separated from the Temples.
- The aim of schooling was for children to become
morally good citizens. - Values and civic education was defined as the
practicing of palace etiquette civic
responsibility and the religious way of life.

mental and physical health , and with a
democratic outlook. - At the end of this period , the curriculum was
content-overloaded which was counter-productive
to the goal of creating goo citizens.

national and world citizens.

responsibility. They will understand, accept and
appreciate the values of cultures different from
their own. As members of the Thai society and of
the world community, they Will be able to find
solutions to various problems through peaceful
means.

1.5.1 Thai people will have righteous bodily
conduct, righteous speech and righteous
mentality. 1.5.2 Thai people will have moral and
social responsibility and keen awareness of the
dignity Of being Thai. They will be proud of
their forefathers and deeply rooted to their
motherland. They will also observe a democratic
way of life. Besides, they will be good citizens
who offer voluntary services for the benefit of
the community, society and, ultimately, the
whole world.
